Arsenal are still the race for Benfica striker Rodrigo Moreno and Arsene Wenger may move for him before the transfer deadline day.
The Gunners are one of the three clubs that are chasing the 22-year-old striker, who has scored five league goals this season thus far.
The Independent reported few days ago that Russian club Zenit St Petersburg are leading the chase for Rodrigo, having a £25m bid accepted, but the player is not keen to swap Portugal for Russia. However, a move to Valencia and Arsenal could to be tempting for the youngster to refuse.
Arsenal are certainly not willing to match that high price put by Zenit but are in talks with Benfica, according to the reports from O Jogo.
The report says Arsenal have contacted Benfica to know under which conditions, read as the price of the player, they’d let him go and they now leave the final decision in the hands of Arsene Wenger. The player personally prefers a switch to the Premier League.
The Gunners are heavily linked with a move for Julian Draxler of Schalke this winter but whether they can pull off that deal remains to be seen. In that case, young Rodrigo could be a cheaper alternative.
