Uruguay has a rich football history. Winning the first-ever World Cup in 1930 and then winning it again by beating the home team Brazil in 1950. Completely dominating the South American Championship, winning it 11 times, four times being runners up, getting the third position seven times and their worst position being 6th in the tournament’s history.
They have won the Copa America on three occasions and they stood fourth in the latest 2007 version. They have competed in the Olympics twice, in 1924 and 1928, and they have won gold both the times.
