Steven Gerrard

Steven Gerrard is arguably Liverpool’s most famous player of his generation and on talent alone is probably one of the most explosive and determined midfielders you can find in the world today.

He’s been misused for England and recently at Liverpool – his main talents in my view are running the show in midfield alongside a skillful passer like Pirlo who is able to float up and and down the pitch filling the gaps as well as creating opportunities for the rest of the team.

At Liverpool, he has Alonso to do that for him. In England, there’s only Carrick and he’s almost never picked to play alongside Gerrard.

Liverpool captain, Scouser for life and will probably never leave Liverpool, although he might have to if he wants to win the Premiership (then again, who knows?).

Steven Gerrard: “I’ll stay at Liverpool for life.”

Steven Gerrard

Captains Fabregas and Gerrard were tapped up by the lads mag Nuts (out this week) to talk about their chances this season ahead of the big Arsenal v Liverpool clash that takes place today. This is Gerrard’s interview with Nuts – you can read Fabregas’s piece here. Hi Stevie! There have been a lot of…

The Merseyside Derby – Passionate or Malicious?

Kyrgiakos's two-footed-lunge on Fellaini

After watching the recent brutal derby match between Liverpool and Everton, I was astounded by some of the post-match comments by some of the players. Either they were trying to play down the significance of several disgusting tackles, or more worryingly, they actually believe that such tackles are acceptable. Granted, a derby needs to be…

England’s World Cup Chances: The Class of 2010 v The Golden Generation

England’s World Cup Chances: The Class of 2010 v The Golden Generation

Whilst we are used to (endlessly irritated by?) the hype surrounding every build-up to an England World Cup campaign, it’s fair to say that in 2006 much of the hype held water. Here was the ‘Golden Generation’; players who were worthy of standing shoulder to shoulder with the best that rocked-up in Germany. Yes, we…

Two Princes, Goodbye Benitez and Lady Luck

Whilst Reading arguably equalled Leeds feat in triumphing over one of the ‘top four’ bigger sides some serious questions have been raised regarding Liverpool football club, both on and off the pitch, and fingers are being pointed at Rafael Benitez. Rumours have been recklessly slung around about how Liverpool’s potential failure to secure a top…

England’s World Cup Chances: 23 into 11 Doesn’t Go

England’s World Cup Chances: 23 into 11 Doesn’t Go

For the mathematicians out there you’ll instantly recognise the numbers 11 and 23 as ‘prime numbers’, meaning of course that they are only divisible by themselves and 1. For the football fans out there you will recognise 11 as the number of players you can have on the pitch at any one time and 23…

Alex Curran Gerrard – Babe of the Month (January 2010)

Alex Curran Gerrard – Babe of the Month (January 2010)

Soccerlens Babes is kicking off the new year with Steven Gerrard’s wife Alex Curran. She has been a model, a columnist and has her own line of perfume. Instead of going crazy with her WAG-status, she is very sensibly cashing in on it. Making money and putting on a bikini and sunning herself. From Rio…

Steven Gerrard’s best dives

“If I ever saw one of my team-mates diving, I’d definitely have a word” “I don’t think there is anything worse than a player diving. It does ruin the game.” “Players like Ronaldo and Carvalho are ruining the game.” These are some of the quote from Steven Gerrard (Liverpool, England) that I found on the…

Arsene Wenger drags Arsenal back in the title race

Arsene Wenger gives his team a rocket after going one down at half time to come back and win at Anfield 2-1.

Liverpool fans aren’t happy after shock Arsenal defeat

Liverpool fans aren’t happy after shock Arsenal defeat

I just got back from the Soccerlens match-viewing party in Lahore for the Liverpool-Arsenal game, and I can’t forget the look on the face of Steven Gerrard 3 minutes into extra time – total disgust at his team’s situation and how far behind they had fallen after the heady days of last season. Steven Gerrard…

The Diamond Duo are Arsenal’s best bet for success

Are Cesc Fabregas and Robin Van Persie as vital to Arsenal as Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard are to Liverpool?
