Steven Gerrard
Steven Gerrard is arguably Liverpool’s most famous player of his generation and on talent alone is probably one of the most explosive and determined midfielders you can find in the world today.
He’s been misused for England and recently at Liverpool – his main talents in my view are running the show in midfield alongside a skillful passer like Pirlo who is able to float up and and down the pitch filling the gaps as well as creating opportunities for the rest of the team.
At Liverpool, he has Alonso to do that for him. In England, there’s only Carrick and he’s almost never picked to play alongside Gerrard.
Liverpool captain, Scouser for life and will probably never leave Liverpool, although he might have to if he wants to win the Premiership (then again, who knows?).
Gerrard is a good diver
There are some players who habitually dive and then get called on it – Cristiano Ronaldo, Arjen Robben, Robin van Persie, to name a few. There are others who are saints but resort to diving at their most desperate hour – Thierry Henry and David Beckham. And then there are those who spit on their…
Manchester United vs Liverpool – Picking a combined team
After our new author JAFL inadvertently sparked off the customary Friday controversy by telling Liverpool fans that they won’t win the Premiership this season, one of the threads talked about “who had the better players” between Manchester United and Liverpool. As a result of that discussion, here is my pick of a starting 11, a…
“Diver” Steven Gerrard is a hypocrite
Twice Steven Gerrard has taken the time to condemn foreign players diving in interviews. In one instance he stated that, if he saw a team-mate diving he’d say to them “WE don’t do that here. Cut it out” and that he “jumps off his sofa” when he watches football at home and someone dives.
Calling all Liverpool and Chelsea fans – Gerrard vs Lampard
Who is better – Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard or Chelsea’s Frank Lampard? That where this discussion turned to, and since it has been such a contentious point for both sets of fans (plus England fans), let’s find out…
Terry vs Gerrard – Vote For The Next England Captain
Steve McClaren will officially announce his squad for the friendly against Greece on August 16 in a press conference on Friday. One of his first acts will be to name a new captain – one that will lead England to Euro 2008 and hopefully, to the 2010 World Cup as well.
John Terry or Steven Gerrard? Vote For Your England Captain!
David Beckham’s resignation after England’s exit from Germany 2006 leaves us with only two real options for the captain’s post – Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and Chelsea captain John Terry.
England vs Hungary – Match Report
The 3-1 scoreline should have flattered the Hungarians, but it ended up flattering the England team instead. While the ‘A’ team outclassed their opponents in all areas, they lacked the penetration to make their chances count. The fact that the first two goals came off set pieces showed that against tougher teams, goals would be…
Real Madrid – Some things never change
It had to happen – Madrid is (too predictably) going after big names again this summer, with Gerrard on the top of the list. One wonders, of course, why a star-studded midfield like Madrid would have a ‘problem’. Maybe they need better man-management or a better team atmosphere? What’s that about too many egos spoiling…
