Rafael Benitez

A master of the tactical game and of winning pressure one-off games, Rafael Benitez has the pedigree to be a great manager. Made his name with Valencia before moving to England to manage Liverpool and has led them to 2 Champions League finals in 3 years. That’s more than Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho and SAF, so that’s saying a lot.

Valencia won La Liga under him, but Liverpool have been off the pace in the league so far as Rafa in my opinion still has to get his tactics in line with the demands of the Premiership.

Quick! Name the team that’s been the most pleasant surprise of the Premier League season? If you answered Tottenham, you’d be wrong. Most figured they were on the cusp of breaking into the top four or five in the league. No, the team that’s shocked people more than any other this year has to be…

10 Losses Later…

What can I really say that hasn’t been said about Liverpool’s season? It’s been a terrible year and things are looking bleak for the future. They can’t seem to find any sort of consistent form, their players keep lashing out at the boss, the boss holds onto his job despite this terrible form because of…

Liverpool: the “new Bolton”?

Liverpool: the “new Bolton”?

I am confident that I am not alone in being frustrated and annoyed at Sam Allardyce’s recent pre-match snipes at Rafael Benitez and Liverpool.  Mind-games is a part of football, but it tends to lack credibility when a team fails to back up their manager’s bold words with a victory. Firstly, Allardyce vowed that Blackburn…

Three key battles ahead for Liverpool

Rafael Benitez must have been feeling that perhaps he was not destined to take Liverpool to their first trophy win since 2006 when Robert Huth poked in a last-gasp equaliser for Stoke on Saturday. Lucas had already had a possible penalty shout denied in the first half and was booked for his troubles, and Dirk…

Benitez’ failing a social one

Rafael Benitez signed a 5 year contract at Liverpool in the summer, and this is probably the only thing saving him from the proverbial noose. Its often cited his transfer policy is to blame, that he has been unlucky with injuries, and that his team is over-reliant on two players, but in truth, his failing…
