David Beckham

I’ve been told that I’m the biggest David Beckham fan people have ever met. I assure you that I don’t go gaga over his pics, but as a player he is everything you’d expect – extremely hard-working, talented, gives 110% every time and is flawed as well as simple genius.

Becks had an illustrious career with Manchester United before being kicked out by SAF and thrown Real Madrid‘s way, who then proceeded to shoot themselves in the foot by giving him a poor contract which led him to head towards LA Galaxy, where Becks will, in all likelihood, end his professional career.

He’s been excellent for England as well, both under Eriksson and under McClaren (who saw the light finally and picked him for the national team).

Raise, Call, or Fold: L.A. Galaxy, David Beckham and Landon Donovan

Rumors in and out of the executive suites of professional and international soccer are a perpetual game of partial information.  There is usually some truth, some falsehoods, and some bluffs being run through the press.  It’s a lot like Texas Hold ‘em poker in that executives, agents and managers have to make player acquisition decisions based…

Top 10 Football Celebrities

Top 10 Football Celebrities

Football is a global game, and whatever your views might be on money in football, there’s no denying that football as a sport has produced many celebrities. These have been, more often than not, iconic figures who brought about positive change through their success, although many have been happy to parlay their fame into money…

David Beckham – We salute you

David Beckham – We salute you

David Beckham’s turbulent sixteen year career at international level looks all but over. Fabio Capello has deemed the former Manchester United and Real Madrid man as “too old” and will no longer be seeking his services as he begins to groom younger talent into his England set-up. The manner of Capello’s revelation is somewhat ignorant…

Forbes Rich List: David Beckham Is Still The World’s Most Valuable Football Player

Forbes’ inaugural SportsMoney 50-50 list (a system used to rank the 50 most valuable teams and the 50 most valuable athletes across all world sport) were announced yesterday and, whilst the individual standings were stacked heavily in favour of American sports stars (NBA players occupy 14 slots, NFL players 9), there are six footballers that…

Old England’s last chance for World Cup glory?

Old England’s last chance for World Cup glory?

Last Chance for the England Chieftains? At one point Terry, Lampard, Gerrard and now Ferdinand have all held the captaincy yet all four are likely playing their last World Cup ever. Will this incite a mid-life-crisis-esque meltdown or provide swan song cup winning motivation? It struck me as I was glancing through this England team…

David Beckham To Take World Cup Coaching Role With England?

David Beckham To Take World Cup Coaching Role With England?

Veteran midfielder David Beckham has confirmed that he hopes to be playing a much more active role in England’s World Cup campaign than just travelling to South Africa in a ‘mascot’ capacity. Beckham, who saw his hopes of playing in this summer’s World Cup ended by a ruptured achilles tendon sustained in March, has revealed…

England – Why being a one man team could cost us dear

England – Why being a one man team could cost us dear

The Barclay’s Premier League season came to its finale yesterday and the nation held its breath yet again. This was not because of the extremely tense circumstances in which the league was decided, but because Wayne Rooney had felt a slight twinge in his groin and had to be substituted during Manchester United’s four-nil drubbing…

Real Madrid Rejects poised for Champions League Glory

Champions League 2010 Final - Madrid

Like so many of you out there I’ve long since lost all respect for Real Madrid and how they conduct their affairs. The malaise born out of the ‘presidential’ system seems to me to tarnish the clubs image rather than enhance it and the side effect that it channels through the media is, frankly, an…
