David Beckham
I’ve been told that I’m the biggest David Beckham fan people have ever met. I assure you that I don’t go gaga over his pics, but as a player he is everything you’d expect – extremely hard-working, talented, gives 110% every time and is flawed as well as simple genius.
Becks had an illustrious career with Manchester United before being kicked out by SAF and thrown Real Madrid‘s way, who then proceeded to shoot themselves in the foot by giving him a poor contract which led him to head towards LA Galaxy, where Becks will, in all likelihood, end his professional career.
He’s been excellent for England as well, both under Eriksson and under McClaren (who saw the light finally and picked him for the national team).
The Round-Up: Wenger Plugs The Gap, Liverpool Chase ‘New Walcott’
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he may have to dip into the club’s swelling coffers to bring in defensive cover during January after learning that Belgian centre-back Thomas Vermaelen has suffered yet another ‘mystery setback’ in his bid to recover from the prolonged Achilles problem that he originally sustained whilst playing for his country way back in early September.
Tottenham Still Hopeful Over Beckham Debacle
Due to an increasingly obvious desire to once again saunter amidst the vivid hum of Premier League life, David Beckham (along with the legal suits at Tottenham Hotspur) is currently beavering away, exploring all the channels available to him in his joint bid to turn a brief training excursion/flagrant PR exercise into a full-bodied loan…
The Round-Up: Will Ancelotti Be Out For A Duck In January?
Having staved off Roman’s wrath for the time being with a thumping 7-0 victory over rudderless Ipswich at the weekend, Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is apparently about to be handed the necessary funds to finally land AC Milan starlet Alexandre Pato before the January transfer window ebbs to a close in three weeks’ time.
Premier League Transfer Preview: January 2011
With the transfer window now ready and open for business Soccerlens looks at the possible comings and goings of all twenty Premier League clubs. Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger has already confirmed that The Gunners have no intention of strengthening during the winter period but in all honesty even the club’s fans can concur with one…
The Soccerlens Cheaters And Scoundrels XI
Soccerlens bring to you: The Cheaters XI – which is basically just the England squad of the last five or so years (plus a few peripherals) which, you can’t help but feel, may say more about the British tabloid press than it does about the skewed fidelity of our nation’s footballing protagonists! 1. Andy Goram…
Wenger Wraps Wilshere In Cotton Wool, Rules Out Beckham Loan
Arsenal patriarch Arsene Wenger looks set to re-open the dormant schism that exists between himself and the Football Association (FA) by attempting to levy 18-year-old midfield tyro Jack Wilshere‘s inclusion in the England U21 squad for next summer’s European Championships in Denmark. Sir Trevor Brooking, the FA’s erstwhile director of football development, indicated earlier this…
Football Algebra
Unless we’re watching an International friendly, the days of a football team donning the traditional 1 to 11 numbering system is long behind us. Since the Premier League switched to assigned squad numbering at the start of the 1993/94 season, you are just as likely to see a goalkeeper wearing the number 25 shirt as…
Slick Pitch Leaves England 2018 Bid In Pole Position
Sitting through the four respective last-ditch World Cup 2018 pitches this morning was nigh-on insufferable at times, as if trapped in a hellish junior management sales exposition that was doomed to cycle on for the rest of human existence. First up, Holland and Belgium, who’s bid president Ruud Gullit opened up by informing the room…
Beckham Says No To Everton Relegation Battle
David Beckham has insisted he will not be joining Everton on loan this winter and who can blame him. This was supposed to be the season Everton really pushed for the top 4, something which was heavily advocated in the summer by Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger. But as other teams have improved, Everton…
David Beckham: ‘We Can Trust FIFA Members’
As part of the final preemptive charm offensive before tomorrow’s big ballot, the England 2018 World Cup bid team have sent out their big-hitting (and chintzily named) ‘Three Lions’ out into the conference and media halls of Zurich to deliver one last wave of thick, undulating schmooze to the relevant FIFA Executive Committee (ExCo) members…
