Rafael Benitez

A master of the tactical game and of winning pressure one-off games, Rafael Benitez has the pedigree to be a great manager. Made his name with Valencia before moving to England to manage Liverpool and has led them to 2 Champions League finals in 3 years. That’s more than Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho and SAF, so that’s saying a lot.

Valencia won La Liga under him, but Liverpool have been off the pace in the league so far as Rafa in my opinion still has to get his tactics in line with the demands of the Premiership.

Alex Ferguson is a naughty old man

After United beat Porto, I reckoned that Fergie would lay off Liverpool till at least next week, and focus on Everton in the meantime. It seems that the old man is smarter and sharper than yours truly – not only has he set out the most delicious of baits that Rafa would be a saint…

Was Stevie G’s absence merely a smoke screen by Liverpool?

Well, the hopes of a miracle turnaround looked sure for a while but now have past and the memories of one of the greatest games in European footballing history are just that, memories. The players on the pitch did well to beat the electric atmosphere in the stadium and delivered a truly outstanding spectacle. Chelsea…

Chelsea v Liverpool – Bravo!

Barcelona v Chelsea. The sentence no Liverpool fan wanted to hear this morning, even though most expected to. So the European season for Liverpool has ended prior to the semi final stage for only the second time in five seasons after last night’s incredible 4-4 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, but the memories of…

Hiddink does the business as Chelsea take control

Hiddink does the business as Chelsea take control

Anfield fell silent, save for a euphoric pocket of travelling supporters in the Anfield Road End. All around were blank faces or heads obscured by hands, jackets, hoods and just about any other object that could be found to mask the pain. Rafa Benitez made a desperate, and futile, attempt to get someone’s attention on…

Rafael Benitez is king of Anfield till 2014 – but will Liverpool sign the right players?

Rafael Benitez is king of Anfield till 2014 – but will Liverpool sign the right players?

So finally it has been confirmed. Rafa Benitez will stay at Liverpool for another five years after he agreed a contract extension that will keep him at Anfield until at least 2014, putting to an end (some of) the speculation that has haunted the corridors of the club for the past eighteen months or so….

Done Deal: Rafa Benitez signs contract extension at Liverpool through 2014

Done Deal: Rafa Benitez signs contract extension at Liverpool through 2014

If you hear a lot of noise coming from the North West corner of England this morning, don’t worry, it’s just the entire red half of Merseyside breathing a huge collective sigh of relief. That sigh is of course in response to the wonderful news — if you were one of the many Liverpool fans…

Liverpool can win Premier League AND Champions League

Or how YOU can play your part in helping Liverpool win the Double:

Liverpool take note – Atleti show up Real’s deficiencies

Can Ramos beat Rafa?

It was literally impossible to avert one’s eyes from last night’s pulsating Madrid derby anyway, but there is little doubt that Señor Rafael Benitez will have seen plenty to warm himself amidst a freezing Saturday night on Merseyside. In front of a baying Bernabeu crowd, a contrast to the usually silent demands, Real & Atletico…

Primetime Football – Rafael Benitez, 48, from Liverpool, the quiz-show contestant

Rafael Benitez - king of Liverpool

Chris Tarrant: Welcome back to another episode of Who wants to buy some pampered millionaires? – the show where we ask fifteen questions and fifteen correct answers can win you a Sheikh’s ransom for the summer. I’m joined today by Rafael, 48, from Liverpool. So Rafael, how are you feeling so far? Rafael: I am…

Liverpool Fans: What is Rafa Benitez playing at?

Is it me or has Rafa lost his pen? He keeps saying he’s going to sign that new Liverpool contract but never quite seems to get round to it. Either his biro has run out of ink or the Spaniard is winding everyone up. I’ve lost count of the number of times he’s said he’s…
