Nomis Football Boots - Ask Your Feet

It’s one of those things that becomes obvious with hindsight - that brands don’t necessarily make football shoes good for your feet and that you need to extensively test football boots before committing yourself to them in a proper game to minimise any injury risk.

The new Umbro SX Flare - A boot to Newcastle’s rescue, and England’s Renaissance?

SX Valor

Following on from the launch of the SX Flare boot, Umbro have now released an ‘England‘ edition of the SX Flare and SX Valor. If you watch the television closely tonight, you’ll see John Terry wearing the Valor and Michael Owen wearing the Flare, as England take on France in the Stade de France in Paris.

Will ‘the perfect boot for today’s fast paced game’ keep France out at one end and score the goals for England at the other? We’ll have to wait and see.

I have not approached John Terry for a quote about the boots as he would no doubt claim to be busy!

Umbro

Football boot manufacturers Umbro have launched a brand new boot. The SX Flare is described by the manufacturers as “The perfect boot for today’s fast paced game”.

Top stars who are wearing the boot include Newcastle and England striker Michael Owen, Everton and Australia star Tim Cahill and Rangers and Scotland captain Barry Ferguson.

Umbro tell us that the boot has been designed using innovative Michelin technology. I thought about writing that the players will have to tread carefully and avoid getting too tyred, but decided against it!

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 Review

Besides perennial irrelevance on the world stage, there are three things us football fans from the Third World can look forward to each year: decrepit stadium seats, cheap-looking replica jerseys and a bootleg copy of the latest installment in the Japanese Winning Eleven video game series by Konami Tokyo.

FlashScore.com Review: Personalised Live Scores

Tagged: Reviews

In an ideal world, live soccer games would take priority over everything else in life. You know that when your team is playing, things like work and other obligations just don’t seem nearly as important as knowing what the score is, and knowing what the score is right now. Unfortunately, your boss probably doesn’t agree.

MatchHotels.com - Review

Tagged: Reviews

Many football fans don’t get to go to as many away games that they would like to- either because of the cost (who wants to spend that much money on a day trip when they can watch their club lose from the comfort of their tv lounge?), or simply because finding accommodation in and around the area is a pain. Now however, with the inception of MATCHHotels.com, football fans will have these troubles no longer.

MatchHotels.com director Ben Jackson tells the story:

“Fans want to support their teams but escalating ticket prices and travel expenses do not add up financially for 90 short minutes of action. When fans can combine an away game with a weekend away the economics make more sense and teams get more travelling support.”

So I guess the first question here is (for all you UK-based fans): would you visit more away games if you could turn it into a weekend away?

Soccer Training Info

Tagged: Reviews

I’ve known about Soccer Training Info for almost an year now, and while I’ve rare sought them out for training info (never had the need), I’ve turned to the site from time to time for picking up some classic videos, like the top 10 goals Eric Cantona scored for Manchester United.

John’s redesigned the site since then, turning the proverbial bucket o’ bolts into a intuitive, professional showcase of soccer training information. He asked me to review the site, so here we are - sorry if this is critical John, I never promised to say anything nice :)

Soccer Training Info focuses on offering training tips and ideas to youth football players and coaches. The site also has a section of highlight videos (the thing I like best about them, btw) and new sections on soccer nutrition, the psychological aspect of playing football and also some research on money in football.
