Meet our new friends, SoccerNews.com

SoccerNews.com is a soccer news website featuring the latest football news from around the world (a broader perspective than you’d find on most news sites) as well as live scores, league tables and more stats.

Have a look, browse around and be sure to drop a comment here to tell them what you think and how they can improve (feedback is always good).

SoccerNews.com are also looking for quality guest bloggers - I’ll discuss this in more detail next week but if anyone is interested, drop me a note along with some writing samples.

Who will be the Next Soccer Star?

Tagged: Reviews - SL Partners

While some of us are just big dreamers, there are a few who actually do have the talent to sign that dream contract with one of the world’s top clubs. But, not everyone has the chance to catch the eye of that scout from Manchester United, Real Madrid, or even Blackpool.

Well, that may have been the case, but this is where Next Soccer Star steps in.

Texas Pro Soccer Festival Journal: Days One & Two

Soccerlens editor Eddie Griffin is in San Antonio covering the Texas Pro Soccer Fest, a pre-season tournament / training camp for MLS teams DC United, Chivas USA, Toronto FC and defending MLS champions, Houston Dynamo.

Now that I finally have a chance to really sit down and knock something out, I have a few tips for those who may be aspiring journalists, when it comes to covering extended a large-scale event.

MLS Powers Set to Take Part in First Texas Pro Soccer Fest in March

This week, Major League Soccer will be coming to south Texas, in the first (of hopefully many) Texas Pro Soccer Fest.

From March 3-9, four of MLS’ most popular teams and some of the league’s biggest stars will be on display in the San Antonio area, in a weeklong training camp and friendly match series.

Brian Ching, Dwayne De Rosario, and the two-time defending MLS champion Houston Dynamo will be making the short trip, and they’ll be joined by another former champion in four-time winners D.C. United, who boast last year’s MVP, Luciano Emilio, Jaime Moreno, and a notable recent addition in Argentine midfielder Marcelo Gallardo.

Along with the Dynamo and D.C. United, two of the league’s most popular franchises will take part, in 2007 Western Conference regular-season champion Chivas USA and Toronto FC, who had one of the league’s highest attendances last season, their first season in existence.

Get Well Soon Chris (EPL Talk)

Tagged: SL Partners

I haven’t known Chris (The Gaffer - EPL Talk) for a long time but whenever we’ve talked, he seems like an intelligent and friendly person. I’m proud to call him a friend and was distressed to hear that he’s in the hospital.

Michael’s post doesn’t tell us how serious it is (although if you’re admitted into the hospital for an indefinite period of time, I think it’s somewhat serious) - but as someone who has suffered from respiratory problems myself, I know first-hand that they can be a real bitch.

Get well soon Chris.

Football Media Welcomes EPL Talk and Family

I am proud to announce that Christopher Harris and his team of bloggers running EPL Talk and associated websites have now joined our network, Football Media.

As some of you know, Football Media is undergoing some structural changes and we’re changing focus - moving away from the initial proposed role of tech support and towards a deeper level of cooperation and pooling resources together to help members succeed. In that regard Chris’s background and the standing of the ‘Talk’ family of footy blogs will be a great addition to the network.

Goalwire - Live Scores Website - Review

Goalwire is a new advertiser on Soccerlens (to advertise your website, please see this page) and a Soccerlens partner - here’s an overview of their website and what they offer.

Goalwire is the world’s leading livescore site with scores, statistics and league tables from over 50 coutries, in 12 different sports.

The sports coverage extends from Basketball and Football (Soccer) to Handball, Tennis, Ice Hockey, plus a few more, and their site is available in over 10 languages (including English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, and Estonian).

Their homepage displays current results, with a list of all matches for the day, as well as a tab which gives you the option to display only the matches being played at the moment, or the matches played later that week.

You can also select to display Statistics and Tables by Sport and League, in a very convenient drop-down menu that is extremely fast to load. And get this: statistics are not limited to the top league of each country, but also lower divisions (from the English Conference through to the Italian Serie C2, all the way to the Swedish 3rd Division Södra Götaland, whatever that is :) ).

Looking for Newcastle United and Liverpool Guest Bloggers

Hey guys.

We have spaces open on two of our blogs - the Newscastle United blog and the Liverpool blog, Anfield Red.

Here’s how it works:

If you support Newcastle United or Liverpool, and if you’re interested in writing a couple of articles a week or more about your club, then please get in touch:

Anfield Red (Liverpool): Contact here.
NUFC Blog (Newcastle United): Contact here.

Oh, and if you can write regularly (that is, a couple of posts per day), then there’s the possibility of a paid gig (if you’re regular, that is).

Also, consider that you should probably attach a sample post / article that’s ready to be posted on the blog right away - it will help us judge your writing skills, and speed the process up quite a bit.

Off you go…

SquadGod - Monthly Games

SquadGod.com a.k.a one of Soccerlens’s advertising partners and also the ultimate fantasy football site, today added a monthly game option to its existing gameplay formats. SquadGod advertises itself as the only fully customisable fantasy football game available, and now lets players and fantasy managers set-up games running in a monthly format, allowing players to field a new team every month.

Monthly games work exactly like standard, season-long games, but at the end of every month your points re-set back to zero, and you get given 11 free transfers to select an entirely new team for the month ahead. Not only is this great for mid-season leagues, and players who got off to bad start to the season, but also it offers website owners, football bloggers and sports related media businesses the opportunity to set-up their own leagues with monthly winners and prizes.

What do Casillas, Torres, Ronaldo, Beckham, and Alan Smith have in common?

According to Bobby Boswell, they’re all mingers.

Jokes apart, props to the gang at Kickette for snagging Bobby Boswell of DC United for an interview, I’m an idiot for missing this when it happened in early September (V, your fault for not telling me, really!), but I’ve found out now, so please go over to YouTube and catch the 1 min interview (probably not too interesting if you’re a guy, mind you).

And here’s the accompanying blog post from Kickette.

While you’re at it, do me a favor and vote for Kickette as the best UK blog in the 2007 Weblog Awards? They’re top of the pile at the moment and it would be quite cool to have them win it.

Ah…I need to look at Gemma for a while now, saw that vid twice and can’t shake it off now.

Republik Of Mancunia - Yet Another Manchester United Blog

Soccerlens regulars may have recognised the Manchester United bias in this site. Of course, this is not entirely intentional — the main man, Ahmed, is a Manchester United fan and so is yours’ truly — as there are a good number of articles from fans of other Premiership clubs, and in some cases, other European leagues. All in all it is, more or less, a general football blog, with the obvious bias at times. Sorry for labouring a point so much while stating the obvious.

So, as a Manchester United fan, it pleases me to introduce you all to another prominent Manchester United blogger, who certainly writes a million times better than me over at the Republik of Mancunia blog. Although I doubt this would be so much of an introduction to most Manchester United fans as they might have already heard of this blog. Scott has been at it for over a year now, and just recently switched from Blogger to the more superior Wordpress. He is also now a part of the Football Media network, which is a good thing for all of us.

So, we now have two Manchester United blogs in the network! While at Red Rants, we try to discuss the daily happenings at our favourite club quite often drifting into lazy rants and poor attempts at humour, RoM guarantees you quality articles that, I am sure, will be well worth your time.

So go ahead, check out Scott’s blog, and leave your comments there.

Win a Free Copy of the G-Code

Most of the time, Big J (of Keeper Skool fame) is out training goalkeeping neophytes in the great Australian Outback but he’s taken some time out to collaborate with Soccerlens on a very special deal.

In short (and keeping it sweet), we’re giving away four (4) gratuit (free, motherfucker, free) copies of the excellent G-Code over the next four weeks in a never-before-seen-and-hidden-from-secret-cameras contest.

The rules are simple - you sign up for the Keeper Skool mailing list, then follow the contest instructions as they are sent to you. Each week there will be a draw (not the Champions League kind, thankfully) in which we’ll choose one lucky winner to get the goalkeeping fitness e-book (G-Code).

A monkey could win this contest, it’s so easy. To get your grubby hands on the G-Code, sign up for the Keeper Skool mailing list and wait for further instructions.

This post will self-destruct in…wait, wrong post :)

MLS and US Soccer News

Tagged: MLS - SL Partners - USA

US soccer blog, StateSideFooty, has had a successful first couple of weeks, getting a mention on the ESPN blogs and dozens of emails from MLS and US soccer fans writing in to compliment Danny and Brian on their new venture.

Not all new blogs thrive (or even survive) in the long run, but the way SSF has taken off and built a readership, I’m sure that it will become the best source for MLS news and US national team news in the next 12 months.

Read the G-Code, be a better footballer

The following is a product endorsement. If you feel like pissing over it because your girlfriend / wife / mother / daughter is whoring out to the local football team (even the kit man), then be afraid of the day when I come and piss all over your grave. After (or maybe during) I get it on with your beloved, of course.

In other words, play nice :)

John over at Keeper Skool has now lost his marbles and is providing The G-Code (a detailed fitness resource for goalkeepers and athletes) for free. There’s a catch though (there’s always a catch) - you’ll have to spend a couple of minutes reading some nonsense advertising (worse than this, but it’s worth it, I promise) to pick up the G-Code for free.

NUFCBlog.com launches new Newcastle United Forum

Congratulations to Newcastle United blogger (and fast turning into an icon) Ed Harrison - this morning nufcblog.com passed 1 million hits, and today it celebrates it’s 4-month anniversary.

In recognition of the milestone - and also because the Newcastle United blog has a strong, vibrant community - we launched a Newcastle United forum this morning as well.
