Which Premier League players have scored 100 goals or more? Who has scored the most goals in each Premier League season? And who is the top Premier League scorer this season?

Below we’ve answered all of the above questions – all players in the Premier League 100 club, the golden boot winners from previous Premier League seasons and the goalscoring charts from the most recent (2011/2012) Premier League season.

The top five Premier League goal scorers get their own little write up and a link to video of their goals. Everyone outside of that gets just their name, the clubs they played and scored for (or club, in the case of Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Matt LeTissier) and, of course, their total number of Premier League goals.

You can also jump directly to the Premier League Golden Boot winners and Most Premier League goals this season sections.

Alan Shearer, OBE, was born on 13th August 1970. Having started his career at Southampton, he went on to become one of the most prolific scorers of all time with Blackburn and his beloved Newcastle.

Great in the air, predatory from close range and deadly from distance, Shearer was at one time the complete striker. A series of knee injuries robbed him of some pace, but Shearer adapted his game in his later years and continued to find the net.

After the first ten years of the Premier League, Shearer was named as the outstanding player of the decade. He is also listed in the FIFA 100 greatest living footballers.

Shearer played 63 times for England, scoring 30 goals. He captained the side on 34 occasions.

Now working as a pundit on BBC television’s Match of the Day, Shearer had a brief spell as Newcastle United manager in 2008/9, when he took charge for the last eight games but was unable to save the club from relegation.

Andy Cole, or Andrew Cole, as he now prefers to be called was born on 15th October 1971. He began his career with Arsenal, but played just one game before moving to Bristol City. His goal scoring exploits for The Robins caught the attention of Kevin Keegan at Newcastle, who signed the striker in 1993. Cole partnered Peter Beardsley, won the First Division and continued scoring in the Premier League for he following two seasons.

He was sold controversially to Manchester United in 1995, where he went on to achieve huge success. He was the top scorer in Europe for United in the treble winning season of 1998-99, a season in which he and Dwight Yorke contributed 53 goals between them overall. Cole scored the goal that won the Premier League title, and the goal that took them to the Champions League final. He has five Premier League winners medals, one Champions League winners medal and two FA Cup winners medals.

Since leaving United Cole has played at Blackburn, Fulham, Mancheser City, Portsmouth, Birmingham and Sunderland, without quite recapturing his best goal scoring form. Cole finished his career with a loan move to Burnley and a brief spell at Nottingham Forest before retiring in 2008.

Cole was awarded the PFA Young player of the year award in 1994, and played 15 games for Engand, scoring just one goal.

Thierry Henry was born on 17th August 1977. He moved to Arsenal after a relatively successful career in France and Italy, but was regarded by many as an overrated wide player. Arsene Wenger converted Henry to be a striker and the rest, as they say, is history. Pacy, classy, goalscoring history.

Henry’s goals won the Premier League twice for Arsenal, including the 30 league goals he scored as Arsenal’s famous Invincibles went the entire 2003/4 season unbeaten. Henry was twice awarded the PFA Players Player of the Year award, and also won the Football Writers Player of the Year award on two occasions.

For France, Henry scored 51 goals in 123 appearances and has World Cup and European Championship winners medals.

Henry left Arsenal for Barcelona in 2007, where he won La Liga, the Champions League, Copa Del Rey and the Club World Cup. He currently plays for New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer. Henry made an emotional loan return to Arsenal in January 2012, playing for 7 weeks and scoring a few crucial goals, including 2 in the league.

Robbie Fowler was born on 9th April 1975. He grew up in Toxteth, a rough area of Liverpool, and went on to become one of the best players ever to represent the Reds. In 1995 and 1996 he was awarded the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

Renowned for his natural finishing ability, in 1994 Fowler scored three times in 4 minutes, 33 seconds against Arsenal, still the fastest hat-trick in Premier League history. His goal scoring exploits were always matched by the controversy surrounding him. He was particularly criticised when after scoring a goal he pretended to snort the paint from the six yard line, following rumours of a cocaine addiction. Presenting his backside to Graeme Le Saux, rumoured to be gay, was also an episode that Fowler should not be proud of.

Fowler left Liverpool for Leeds United and then Manchester City, but was back at Anfield for one more year in 2006/7. Fowler went on to play for Cardiff City and Blackburn Rovers before moving to Australia in 2009, where he played a season for North Queensland Fury before moving to current club Perth Glory.

Fowler played 26 times for England scoring 7 goals.

Les Ferdinand, MBE, was born on 8th December 1966. He began his career scoring goals galore for lower league Hayes, and continued to do so wherever he went. His first big move was to top flight Queens Park Rangers, where he spent eight years banging in goals from 1987 to 1995 before earning a high profile move to Newcastle United. On Tyneside, Ferdinand developed a frightening strike partnership with Alan Shearer.

Like Shearer, Ferdinand was the complete package. Fast, strong, deadly in front of goal, and absolutely unbeatable in the air. After two years at Newcastle he moved on to Tottenham, where he spent six successful years before playing for West Ham, Leicester, Bolton and Reading.

Ferdinand was awarded the PFA players player award in 1996 and scored 5 goals for England gaining 17 caps.

The video, which demonstrates the unique features of the Samsung GALAXY Note, showcases Beckham’s incredible soccer skills as he reproduces the melody of Beethoven’s classic ‘Ode to Joy’ by kicking a series of soccer balls against a 15-foot wall of drums. Beckham uses the GALAXY Note’s large screen to plan his sequence of kicks against the drums. Then he uses the S Pen to annotate a photograph and post it on Facebook, capturing his experience and sharing it instantly with all his seventeen million fans.

GALAXY Note introduces a revolutionary new mobile device category. Retaining all the portability of a smartphone, its immersive large screen and advanced pen-input capabilities enable new possibilities for creating, rendering and sharing content with unique self-expression and spontaneity. GALAXY Note continues to win praise from consumers across the globe, recently surpassing 5 million sales in only 5 months since its launch.

Samsung, an Olympics sponsor since 1988, will be demonstrating the latest smartphones including GALAXY Note in the Olympic Village and throughout London for the duration of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Nike: “My Time Is Now” Ad - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Nike Football “My Time is Now” campaign features a global roster of the world’s best players, and celebrates the hunger and impatience of young players ready to tear up the rule book to make their mark in football’s elite ranks.

The film will also be on TV on May 19th during the European Club Final features many of the elite players who will battle it out in Poland and Ukraine, and later this summer, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Andres Iniesta, Wesley Sneijder, Franck Ribery, Mario Götze, Mesut Özil, Yann M’Vila, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck. Special guest appearances are made by Pep Guardiola, Lauren Blanc and basketball superstar LeBron James.

My Time Is Now

As the action unfolds, viewers can experience content in a unique interactive way through hidden tunnels designed to share athlete insights about their hunger to succeed and inspire young athletes to be better footballers.

We first join a France v Holland match that is suddenly interrupted by wave after wave of young players, who invade the pitch, ready to show they have the skills and hunger to take on the world’s best. Defined by their impatience and distinctive black and white uniform, they reflect the players Nike is looking for through “The Chance” which is a global talent search for young players to prove themselves on an elite stage and take their game to the next level.

As the young players take their chance they are joined by football’s new generation and iconic stars as the game heats up. Neymar dazzles with his blinding skills and faints, Gerard Pique and Andres Iniesta, complete in corporate suits from a stuffy boardroom meeting, join the play on pitch. Even Cristiano Ronaldo is ready to pull on the distinctive black and white uniform sported by the young players, but he’s out of luck as the last remaining jersey is a small size. He wears it anyway, ready to join the game.

Also unveiled in the campaign is the Nike Clash Collection of boots worn by elite players for the biggest moments on pitch and clash of rivalries and games this summer. Nike’s Mercurial Vapor VIII, CTR360 Maestri II, T90 Laser IV and Tiempo Legend IV boots will feature performance innovation and color clash design of traditional white with a bold second color signifying each boots style to stand out on pitch.

Nike has a history of great football advertisements, and on first viewing this is set to be another Nike classic.

If you deflect a shot into your own net, convert a cross past your own goalkeeper or get the last touch before your team concedes it is frustrating and annoying, but these ten are just down right embarrassing. And quite funny.

1. Festus Baise – Citizen Vs Sun Hei SC

The Scorpion kick is a showcase of skill that takes mastery and time to perfect, and is rarely used in the modern game. Nigerian defender Festus Baise decided to use it in the Hong Kong First Division, with disastrous consequences.

2. Avraam Papadopoulos – Greece Vs Luxembourg

Seemingly under no pressure whatsoever, Greece’s Avraam Papadopoulos decides that he needs to put a Luxembourg cross out for a corner, but instead neatly slots the centre home past his own goalkeeper.

3. Chris Brass – Bury Vs Darlington

Unexplainable, embarrassing and downright painful, Chris Brass almost broke his own nose with this attempted overhead clearance for Bury against Darlington back in 2006.

4. Carl Jenkinson – Arsenal Vs Koln

After signing for Arsenal from Charlton in the summer of 2011, Carl Jenkinson was hailed as a great prospect discovered by Arsene Wenger. Gunners fans weren’t entirely convinced after this effort in a friendly against Koln.

5. Gary Neville – England Vs Croatia

Gary Neville was accredited for this monstrosity, with Paul Robinson falling victim to a questionable eastern European pitch as England were beaten 2-0 by Croatia.

6. Iain Dowie – West Ham Vs Stockport

Ian Dowie had an eye for goal and was a talisman for Northern Ireland during his international playing days. West Ham fans witnessed him hit the back of the net 13 times over two spells with The Hammers, with this effort against Stockport potentially being the most clinical.

7. Tony Popovic – Crystal Palace Vs Portsmouth

The back heel flick is a trait of the showboater, the playmaker, the trequartista. However Fratton Park saw Australian defender Tony Popovic try the subtle art for Crystal Palace with an em, interesting, conclusion.

8. Ismail Aissati – Ajax Vs Benfica

The secret to a successful back-pass is keeping the ball on the deck, playing it to the goalkeeper’s favourite side and not hitting it too hard. Ismail Aissati tried the opposite for Ajax against Benfica…..

9. Jamie Pollock – Manchester City Vs QPR

A fine individual effort, this Jamie Pollock special relegated Manchester City to the third tier of English football for the first time in history, whilst simultaneously saving QPR from the drop.

10. Paul Sergio – Portugesa V Ipatinga

As the ball came across the Portugesa box, onlookers screamed, “You have time Paulo”, “take a touch”, “leave it for the keeper” and many other rational pieces of advice. Unfortunately the advice was not heeded.

10 Freak Goals - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

The modern game’s professionalism is based around thorough tactical preparation, strict conditioning of elite athletes and rigorous research on opponents, with the game at the highest level decided by small margins.
Matches and seasons can be concluded one way or the other by a single incident, but sometimes a decisive goal can be based around luck more than skill. The scoring team is happy to have fortune on their side, whilst the side conceding the goal curses their bad luck.

Here are Soccerlens’ top ten strangest and weirdest goals:

Adam Czerkas – Gorzow Wielkopolski vs Wisla Krakow

Sometimes deflections can happen, with a bit of bad luck wrong-footing your goalkeeper. However, this goal for Gorzow Wielkopolski against Wisla Krakow baffles beyond belief.

Stan Collymore – Liverpool vs Blackburn

A manager will always have a game-plan for his team, with all eventualities considered. However, some things, you can’t control, as Tim Flowers finds out here. Paul Robinson and Ian Walker have suffered similar misfortunes also in the past.

Roberto Dinamite – Brazil vs Poland

In this clip the woodwork was determined to keep mercurial Brazil from scoring against hapless Poland. However persistence pays of, as Roberto Dinamite finally finds the back of the net.

Nani – Manchester United vs Tottenham

He’s behind you! Nani takes advantage of a lapse in concentration from Tottenham keeper Heurelho Gomes to score at Old Trafford. Dion Dublin scored a similar effort for Coventry ten years earlier.

Jan Vertonghen – Ajax vs Cambuur

One of the few remaining courtesies in the game of football is returning the ball to the opposition after it has been put it out of play when a player is injured. Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen tries to do just that, but ends up with a one in a million goal.

Tim Howard – Everton vs Bolton

On a blustery night at Goodison Park, Tim Howard’s long ball forward proved too much for Bolton goalkeeper Adam Bodgan, and resulted in a freak goal. Howard later admitted to being on the receiving end of a similar effort earlier in his career, and Paul Robinson also scored a comparable goal in his Tottenham days.

Darren Anderton – England vs Sweden

Darren Anderton had luck on his side in his strike against Sweden, as a goalkeeper and both posts couldn’t stop him from finding the back of the net.

Sweden vs Iceland

An old adage of the game is to play until you hear the whistle; Iceland were already 4-0 down against Scandinavian rivals Sweden when his happened:

Tolgay Ozbey – East Bengal v Pailan Arrows

Communication is a key part of the game, especially in defence – however both goalkeeper and defender are culpable of ignoring that (and each other) is Tolgay Ozbey’s goal for the East Bengal.

Jurgen Sierens – Anderlecht vs KSV Roeselare

Former Roselare stopper Jurgen Sierens does well to stop a long distance strike against Belgian giants Anderlecht, but then loses his bearings slightly…

Some things just can’t be explained in football, and if something similar to this happens to your team, you better laugh or you will cry.

5). Mario Balotelli Italy Shirt Blooper

Italy recently unveiled their new strip in a friendly match against Uruguay. The frequently misunderstood Italian striker Mario Balotelli appeared for the second half wearing Italy’s old shirt. What was even more bizarre was that he had already been wearing the new one in the first half.

4). Goalkeeper Kicks Fan, Gets Sent Off!

In a cup match between Ajax and AZ Alkmaar, AZ keeper Esteban Alvarado gets an unexpected visit from a fan. He then kicks him while he’s down and get sent off!!

3). Cartwheeling Goalkeeper Blooper

Most sports fans are used to the samba skills of the Brazilian players and the way they casually dance their way post their opponents. It seems that that flare extends to the touchline where this gymnastic trainer performs a ritualistic cartwheel as he runs on and off the field!

2). Argentinian Misses 3 Goals In One Match

Martin Palermo misses three penalty kicks in one game against Columbia in 1999.

1). Unconscious Player Sent Off

You read the title correctly! In a Belgian Provincial League game between Templeuve and Quevy, a player is accidentally head butted and lies unconscious in the penalty area. Astonishingly, as he is about to taken away by paramedics, he is given a second yellow card and sent off!

London 2012: Should it be higher on a footballer’s priority list? - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

With an exciting end to the Premier League campaign, the Champions League last four and the upcoming Euro 2012 championships in Poland and Ukraine this summer, football fans can be forgiven for forgetting about the Olympic Games and football’s involvement at the London event.

Attitudes in football to the Olympics are in stark contrast to how modern sports in general perceive the Olympics. As the video of Louis Smith (below) talking about his preparations for London 2012 shows, this is THE moment for professional sportmen and athletes – to compete and prove yourself at the highest level possible. For many sports the Olympics are a defining showcase moment, and for many sportspeople they are the ultimate test.

Football, however, is different. Club football has changed the dynamic to the extent that international football seems like an unnecessary luxury, reserved only for countries who lack a strong domestic league. You can even argue that the best football club could easily beat the best football team in the world – and since that would mean Spain v Spain + Messi + Alves, apart from the logistics the argument holds.

For track and field athletes the Olympics, held every four years, are of a similar importance as the football World Cup or Champions League (or indeed, Premier League survival). Football however is spoilt with one important game after the next, challenges spread out throughout the season and with more opportunities to succeed. As such, the Olympics has been tagged as just another tournament and from a club football perspective, lacking any benefits in an already- packed football calendar.

There is no doubt that the sheer amount of football played by the professional footballer in the modern day is startling, with their domestic leagues, cup competitions, European football, international friendlies and competitive national fixtures all taking their toll physically and mentally. More than the quantity of football is the intensity – playing at full tilt for 90 minutes 50 times a season will take it’s toll on you (just ask David Silva).

But cribbing about fixture congestion to miss the point of the Olympics entirely. For most other sports the Olympics, held every four years, is the pinnacle and the culmination of countless hours on the training ground and gym. Modern-day players are as professional as the game has ever seen, and therefore should want to play at the highest level possible, strive for victory and be the best that they can be. This attitude will be adopted by other sports represented at the Games, and should be treated as such by football.

The age limit on participants in Olympic football ensures that young players – whose footballing output needs to be managed far better than the case of Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere – get an early chance to appear in a major tournament and hone their skills against competitors of the same age group, if not always the same technical level.

A raft of leading Premier League players such as Jack Rodwell and Gareth Bale have been rumoured to be keen to represent Team GB this summer with clubs fuming over the possibility of losing star players in pre-season. The FA has had to assure Premier League clubs that players who take part in the Euros will not take part in the Olympics, there will undoubtedly be athletes who prioritise Euro 2012 and the upcoming 2012/13 Premier League season over involvement at the Olympics.

Despite this, Pearce has issued the rallying cry for all interested parties to come forward, and the modern day competitor should jump at the chance. Admittedly the Olympics will not carry the same following in football as Euro 2012, but the unique chance to play in the Great Britain team, at the sporting summit of the Olympics, on home soil, is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

The fact that the majority of competitors need to be 23 or under (there are three overage players allowed in each squad), should mean that up-and-coming superstars like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Tom Cleverley, Phil Jones and Daniel Sturridge to name but a few should be clambering over themselves to be involved at the Olympics. With some of the higher-profile and older players not eligible or interested, a young prospect could shoot themselves to super-stardom with strong performances, and join a very small group of players to have an Olympic medal in their trophy cabinet.

The likes of Lionel Messi have competed in the Olympic Games before (against the wishes of his parent club), and won the gold. If you ask Messi, despite is embarrassment of titles he will still remember the Olympic gold and what it means to him. Most of the players likely to head to London 2012 under Stuart Pearce can only dream of getting close to Messi’s trophy count – and if the world’s best footballer wants to win everything on offer, if a football tournament at home presents your country’s best chance of international success in football for ages – then it’s only right that players and management (FA) make it a high priority.

Football fans in England tend to say that the Olympics don’t matter. They do to the people taking part, and especially to the people who give it their best shot, and win.
