If Roy Keane was your manager, would you be late for training? I guess Liam Miller is a very brave man :)

James,

It is impossible to cover all angles in one article. In answer to your points, I could have added three from Murphy, one from Stokes but that wouldn't have changed the point of the comments. Has Prica featured?

I accept Wallace is a wide player but so is Ronaldo 21, Downing 6, Hunt 6, Larsson 5. Milner and Diouf have both scored 3.

I'm sure Keano would have hoped for Wallace to chip in with more than two.

QUOTE "The five goals from Jones, three from Chopra, two from Ross Wallace and none from Connolly tell a sorry tale."

Wallace is a winger, Connolly hasnt featured at all this season and you have failed to mention prica, murphy or stokes.

Lazy journalism.

You can't judge a manager this early in his career. He did brilliantly last season but we all know the gulf between the PL and the Championship (just ask Derby).

The problem is, these days, that most promoted teams have very few players on board who are real Premiership standard. With money always in short supply managers tend to spread it thinly. So in an attempt to strengthen the side overall they can't afford to buy any real star players. $35m may sound a lot but spread it over 12 players and, at todays prices, its a pittance.

Keano needs to dig out a couple of big results and keep Sunderland up. If he does that and gets some decent money to spend we'll better be able to judge his performance next season and beyond.

Stuart,

You make some good points and I am by no means saying that Sunderland will go down. I just think it's going to be close.

You certainly back up my point that the fans are totally behind Keano and long may it continue! Good luck.

though i am a pessimist. u have to be when u support the biggest yo yo team of all time, i feel your review/prediction is very one dimensional. focussed on cuurent form and tough remaining fixtures. you havent mentioned other teams current form around the relegation area. i think u'll find 10 pts from last nine games is healthy in comparison to other teams in the drop zone fight. also, other sides have equally , if not more tough fixtures in teh run in. we have the best home record of the bottom teams, and if im not mistaken, the best record in bottom of the table head to heads..pointswise. an issue u have completely contradicted by suggesting we have a poor record.
whilst we play chelsea and arsenal at home, our othe rhome games, which outnumber away fixtures, inc boro /city /w.ham...none are exactly raiking in away points this season. all have poor current form themselves. away....ok villa is a tuffy. but they can be fickle. bolton / fulhma/ newcastle have all got problems. so we have as good a chance as anyone fo staying up. keane has had fill the squad with potential and players who have had some experience at this level. big names will not sign for us as yet...if ever !!
recently, we luckily beat wigan....we had mssive injury probs b4 that game, but due to the signings he made, we cud put out a respectable starting 11, that didnt inc. youth players. we've poss payed over the odds yes..here or there.
i think greg halford has been the only real disasater. mcshane has prove clumsy but committed and so has higginbotham...both are no longer a fixture in the side.
bardsley look alright. chopra is a goal scorer and needs chances. everyone is critical of him, but i think he may yet come good. jones has done well, but only scored 1 in 17 games now. yet chopra gets stick, when hes been out of position, injured and on the bench. im not saying we will be fine, but we are not in the weakest position with current form/remaining fixtures or record against lower teams. those 3 subjects are seemingly what u r basing our relegation credentials on. they are unfounded and misleading. sorry !

They may have a decent record against the lower teams but it must be worrying for their fans that only Fulham, Newcastle and maybe Boro come under that category in their last 9 games. I really hope Sunderland stay up because of the job Quinn and Keane have done, but it'll be mighty close and they need to score more.

The point about Sunderland's performances against teams at the bottom of the table is a bit misleading. In those 12 games there record is actually W 5 D 5 L 2 Pts 20. They have done reasonably well in the must win games, it is their failure to pick up anything at all from teams at the top of the table that is keeping them in the relegation dogfight.
