A- your comment re Ronaldinho, Duff and Crespo...

True United lost out on a couple of good players lately, Ronaldinho, Robben, Mikel, etc, etc. What this shows me is that SAF (and his scouting team) actually have a very good eye for talent. I suppose 'he' is like a Cantona himself in that he makes 'good passes' and tries the 'exceptional' pass every now and then... sometimes it works (and you get a Cantona!!!) and sometimes it does not (you get a Veron???). But, all in all, I've learnt that SAF has an excellent eye for talent. If he feels that someone like Requelme does not 'fit in' ( I myself am a bit pissed off with this one), then I trust him.
What I can't understand though is:
Why does the board not support him... if he's made up his mind that he wants a player, its their job to get him. Why could they not do it as in the cases with Rodaldinho, etc?

Scary thing is yesterday Torres said that he wanted SWP at atletico as the need a winger but when asked if he would move he said only united, chelsea or milan. Some say a swap deal plus cash is on the cards for SWP and Torres. I would really hate to see that happen but its looking more and more likely.

I think that torres will move, lest his career stagnates. He has only to look at other bright spanish footballers who stayed loyal to their club for too long (tamudo, exteberria... raúl even) to realise that Atlético cannot fulfil his ambitions. And this without taking into account that Atlético are notoriously up-and-down.

Well hate to bash you again but its NOT klaas jan OF huntelaar (klaas jan huntelaar and jan venegoor OF hesselink) and yea the point is that your grading was too kind. are you seriously telling me spurs deserve an A ? But anyway your entitled to your opinion. And the likelyhood of torres coming to united seems even less likely now that atletico are moving up the table and with players like agerro, petrov, rodriguez, maniche and luccin in the team, they are bound to perform even better. Add to that the fact that torres has been there his entire career and is a loyal servant, i sadly doubt the move. Though the Hargreaves move seems a little more likely now.

@ Ahmed

Torres, somewhat... Klaas Jan of Huntelaar most definately.

@ A

I didn't grade beyond an A or a B(+ n -)... I gave my reasons as to why as well... Said I was wrong in my assesment of Baptista... and everything else.

I hope you can go through that and well, beat at me again! [;)]

No mate i really think Kuszczak and Carrick are going to be superstarts in the years to come and im happy Fergie still has the foresight to make such buys, but the article is in the short run. I have watched every single United game this season, even the slightly embarrissing game agaisnt Crewe, and while Carrick has made some UNBELIEVABLE passes, he does give the ball away a little too much for me. Maybe i was a bit harsh on the writer because its his interpretation but i stand by the assesments. And i still dream of Torres and Riquelme coming and playing in the famous red shirt. Last week i read an article on newsnow.co.uk on how PSG said United had the Ronaldinho deal tied up but lost out because of Kenyons . Add to that the fact that Kenyon also threw away done deals on Robben and Kezman(who before chelsea was the top scorer in whatever league he played in for 4 yrs straight) and joined chelsea after and signed them both infuriates and makes me hate Chelski even more. I recently picked up my old issue of United magazine issued in 2002 and they had an article on future stars linked to Old Trafford and they mention 3 future star players called Ronaldinho, Duff and Hernan Crespo. Can you imagine what life at old trafford would have been had those 3 players joined ?

And i appreciate anyone who is willing to deabte my comments out. Cheers.

The comments are a bit harsh - everyone has their own opinion, although Arjun you really should get the facts right.

A - if you're a United supporter, please start watching our games! Carrick's biggest advantage is that he doesn't misplace passes and doesn't give the ball away (although he has had 1 or 2 inexplicable spells, like 10 minutes against Bolton)

The keeper's not always to blame for a lack of clean sheets.

Not defending the two players, both of whom I think still have to realise their potential, but perhaps you are being too harsh. Did you have dreams of Torres and Riquelme playing at Old Trafford too? :P

I think that is the worst article i have ever read on Soccerlens. Everyone gets an A or B ? Other than the obvious mistakes pointed out above about Chimbonda being right back and not left and Bellamy welsh not irish, your assesment of players is nonsense. Shevchenko has scored 2 goal in 2 months and they bought him for 35 million pounds, kanu cost literally peanuts and he has banged in about 6. Ballack is still finding his feet and is improving but no where near what he is capable of, but i still think he will improve. Ashely cole has been shit since he left. The defensive system just doesnt let him show his skill and ability. Chelsea get a B- for me.

Rosicky is simply brilliant and Arsenal were smart to snap him up pre-world cup otherwise his prise would have risen another 10 million pounds. Baptista has done nothing since coming to Arsenal and i dont know how you can possibly say he is settling in well. I think the Gooners definately got the better deal in Gallas. Id give them a B.

West ham may have pulled off a miracle thanks to their soon to be new owner, but tevez and mascherano are completely useless and though no one can be sure of how much West Ham actually got them for, they arnt worth it. There other buy, ghananian paintsil seems to doing a decent job and why they have changed his name from paintsil to pantsil still mystifies me. I give them a C.

Newcastle made some killer buys in Martins and Duff and show they are a club moving forward but Sibierski is the stupidist buy ever, he is shit and has contributed nothing. And the thinking behind getting Rossi and not playing him for more than 15 mins ? And for some reason all Toon managers dont seem to relise the problem is the fucking "world class" defense in Babyaro Bramble Carr and Elliot. Newcastle B.

Liverpool deserve a D for me. Bellamy had a good 12 month spell at Blackburn but other than that has never lived up to his hype for me. Even liverpool, 1 goal in 15 games ? worldclass (irish?) striker my ass. Kuyt is neither worldclass and nor prolific. He is good, but not good enough for a team looking to win the EPL. If newcastle bought him id say killer buy but not Liverpools aspirations. and i dont know if you watch the same Liverpool but Pennant is utter rubbish. He is NO WAY near the quality of SWP Ronaldo and Rosicky, Liverpools opponents.

Spurs have been the worst buying team in a LONG time. Sure they have a sick youth system but martin jol has lost the plot man. Berbatov good buy, not proved anything yet. I dont know why he bought Mido is you have defoe and Keane. Zokora is pretty crap and done nothing for spurs other than win a dubious penalty. Essou ekotto is not a wing back for me. Y P Lee offered them pace movment and crossing, something Essou doesnt. Chimbonda has not been what he was last season and why on earth he bought malbranque when he has lennon routledge(whos never been given the chance) jenas and murphy who can all play that position is mind boggling. id give them a D-.

United have made two quality signings. If you notice he always buys players not in their prime and gets them to play in the poistions he wants and in the way he wants. But since the article is looking at short term, being an honest united supporter id give us a B-, because Carrick gives the ball away way too much and Kuszczak has never kept a clean sheet.

All in all a bullshit article, sadly written by a fellow indian football enthusiast.

@Greg

lol

Wow, quite a hammering... Ok... Bellamy is Welsh... My mistake...

Most people seem unhappy with my analyses of the Chelsea and Liverpool(some with everything)... i'm going to avoid the"Hotspurs" has an "s" kind of criticism.

My judgement comes after looking at all the 10 games played... most of which i have seen... especially over the last month.

Since the article was so big, I had to cut out the reasons as to why I have rated certain players highly. So here's my defense...

I have rated the teams solely on the performance of the new recruits and the inability to fill a void left by a former player. And I've been very lenient in my grading because, well, let's just say we all hated the professor that gave us low grades!

One must understand that players - great or not, take time to adapt at any new club.

Chelsea -

How many teams can succesfully pull off a Lampard and Ballack in the same lineup and make sure they both perform decently?

Ballack has been playing well... Not Great... just well... again... how many matches had he played for Bayern before he was brilliant? Give him some time...

The others... I never said Sheva has been great... Every BIG club needs at least 2 if not 3 top players at every position. And Chelsea brought excellent players in both Boulharouz and Kalou, the later having started a few games as well...

Liverpool

If you feel Pennant hasn't been performing, please watch the times he has played... He has been good if not very good whenever presented the ball. Given the fact that he had to gel into a team which doesn't have a regular starting 11 and immediately adapt to a different style of play, I doubt he could have performed better.

Kuyt... I never said he would be top scorer... He has been good.. but lacks delivery from the middle...

West Ham

I gave them a B-... the worst grade... why judge me on that?

Tottenham

3-0 is a hammering, for any top club... If you think you're squad did well, so be it.

And Zokora is said to be a replacement... not by me... but by quite some many experts...

Steed Malbranque played very well for Fulham while he was there... He made it to the top 50 of the all time best European players in the EPL... I think his performances will continue to be impressive when he plays for the Spurs... I never said he has been excellent this season or anything... just said he's a good buy... if not great... time will tell

I must admit I've only seen repeats of Arsenal games and not completely... the patches in which I saw Baptista... he was alright... Judgement on him has been on the basis of previous performances i admit... Apologies...

I hope my reply was satisfactory...

Kuyt… I never said he would be top scorer… He has been good.. but lacks delivery from the middle…

West Ham

I gave them a B-… the worst grade… why judge me on that?

Tottenham

3-0 is a hammering, for any top club… If you think you’re squad did well, so be it.

And Zokora is said to be a replacement… not by me… but by quite some many experts…

Steed Malbranque played very well for Fulham while he was there… He made it to the top 50 of the all time best European players in the EPL… I think his performances will continue to be impressive when he plays for the Spurs… I never said he has been excellent this season or anything… just said he’s a good buy… if not great… time will tell

I must admit I’ve only seen repeats of Arsenal games and not completely… the patches in which I saw Baptista… he was alright… Judgement on him has been on the basis of previous performances i admit… Apologies…

I hope my reply was satisfactory…
