Mexico arrived to the 1978 World Cup with a very young team full of promise and very high expectations. Everyone knew the "Green Angels", as the team was known, was to make a decent or even spectacular Cup. But the failure came right from the start, when in the first game, Mexico was defeated by the then thought "weak" Tunisia squad, 3 goals to 1. The Mexican team's spirit went down, as they lost their two other games against Germany (0-6) and Poland (1-3). The story of the "Green Angels" is one of the darkest in Mexican World Cup history.
