Steven Gerrard - Liverpool FCLiverpool legend Steven Gerrard has revealed that lack of regular playing time in the main reason behind his decision to leave Anfield at the end of the season.

The former England international has already announced his decision to leave the Merseyside club after his contract expires this summer. He has already agreed a deal and will make a switch to the Major League Soccer, where he will join side LA Galaxy.

Gerrard has started in 23 league games this season. The midfielder will turn 35 at the end of this month and he says the “buzz” is no longer the same this season after his role has been limited for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

He believes his role would have still been limited, if he had continued with his current employers, something Gerrard was not happy about.

“I’m going to come on as a sub and the buzz changes. For me, I go to work on a Monday morning and I look forward to Saturday, to prepare to go to battle with some wonderful people – with good mates – and that’s my buzz,” Gerrard told Sky Sports.

“When a manager gets you into the office and says that’s going to change and it’s going to become more limited – that’s when you make your decision.”

“It’s not a selfish thing; coming on as a sub’s just not the same buzz so things have changed this year,” he explained.

The former Swansea manager has a huge task in his hand in finding a replacement for Liverpool’s captain in the centre of the park for the next season.
