Staying or Going? Liverpool star speaks out on PSG rumours

Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has spoken about the rumours linking him with a summer move back to Ligue 1 champions PSG, with some fans unimpressed with his debut season in the Premier League.

The Frenchman, who joined Liverpool for £15m last summer, did not have a thoroughly convincing opening campaign at the back, with the 24-year-old particularly criticised for his part in the horror 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace that arguably cost the club the title.

But while some Liverpool fans may not be 100% convinced with the defender, Sakho himself is very happy on Merseyside, and is not planning to escape back to his former side just yet,

Sahko told Canal + (quoted by ‘Le 10 Sport‘): “A return to PSG? No, it is not in my future plans, but the story is not over with the city of Paris. I always have a pied-à-terre here, I lived there for 23 years. For now, I am very sincere in Liverpool, I discovered a new world, a new language, a new country, I am very, very happy.”

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is preparing to bulk up his squad in the upcoming transfer window, and considering the faults of his defence this season, he may be tempted to bring in defensive reinforcements.

Sahko, however, will seemingly be staying at the club despite the rumours, and will be looking to endear himself more to the Liverpool faithful next season.

What do you think? Is Sahko staying a good thing? Would you have him leave Anfield?

  1. Agger is more better than Sakho therefore the lfc management advice Sakho to go.

  2. Glad to hear it, shows heart & fighting spirit which is essential in any walk of life! Imo there’s too many so called fans who expect players to show loyalty but show none to the players when they struggle to adapt or have a bad spell after an injury like Lucas. It’s his first season in a new country, speaking a different language etc. & he needs time to adjust to the pace & physicality of a new league. The stats prove he’s the best of our defenders with the ball at his feet with over 90% pass completion & he’s solid in most areas. What i think people are seeing is a lack of understanding between Sakho & his defensive partner at CB which will improve in time & we should be there to support our players through that not call for their heads.

    • absolutely correct, he is criticized for being in positions he’s forced to be in because of Skrtel isn’t where he should be. When he has more time to adapt to the league with a more commanding defender to pair with him I think he could become a star, plus he is young still.

    • Hear hear, someone with intelligence speaking here, I advise the masses to sit up and take note to this and all those like minded people. It took Man City three seasons to gel as a team even with their multi-million numerous signings. You know how the saying goes – Rome wasn’t built in a day and I say if they kept throwing the stones away, it would never have been built at all.

  3. Sakho has been one of our best CB this season,I think is luck of communication between him and his partenar and i belive with enough time he will find his feet

  4. Agger makes terrible positional mistakes that leads to goals that doesn’t go against his stats so people who have average football IQs may not notice. Sakho with another season and a more stable partner will be a great back.

  5. Sakho is staying he is a great defender and will be at liveprool for years, he is young and chucked straight into a title race in the PL – of course he will make a few mistakes but overall he has been really good, excellent reader of the game and so dominant in the air. Once he gets used to the pace of the PL and learns the language some more he will be world class
