The two players have met on seven occasions (six times at club level and once on the international stage) and Messi has been on the winning side five times, whereas Ronaldo just once, back in April 2008 with Manchester Utd. With Real Madrid, Ronaldo has lost all three of his encounters with Messi.
Ronaldo broke his duck against Messi with a goal for Portugal against Argentina in a friendly last February but still ended on the losing side, courtesy of a goal and an assist from Messi.

no surprises there for those of us who’ve seen ronnie in the flesh. hugely talented but hugely greedy too. people tend to judge him on his goals record alone but they forget all the wasted shots, the failure to pass to team mates in a better position… there’s no contest between the two of them

I like Messi more and think he is a better player (his mental edge puts him way clear) BUT the Barcelona team and system cerainly compliments him and enhances his stats and abilities. I still think, even as a Messi and Barca fan, that Ronaldo has the ability to single handedly grab a game and change it in an instant that Messi perhaps often misses.

I find it incredible how so many people are continually telling me that Italian Football has been surpassed by German Football…. Yet when you look at the list of the Top 7 attacking footballers in Europe for this season – Italian Footballers occupy 4 of the 7 spots. There are 2 Footballs from Spain (Arguably the 2 best footballers in the world) and then 1 from the Premiership. Not one German Footballer…. Did Italy really deserve to have one of their Champions League Spots taken away? If you ask me…. German Football has improved, but it hasn’t surpassed Italian Football – In the last 10 years how many German Clubs have achieved the highest accolade and actually won the Champions League? None! Spain in my opinion is the league which doesn’t deserve their fourth allocated spot. With only 2 teams ever really threatening for honours (Barcelona & Real Madrid) how can FIFA justify four spots to them? The system is all wrong – Europa Games allocate the same amount of points as the Champions League – Hence how Germany took 3 place in the FIFA Coefficent! Am I the only one that finds this to be incredibly unfair…?
