Spain Turns It On

What can you say about Spain? Australia have already done the amazing comeback feat of scoring 3 goals after being 1-down, but where the Aussies hit Japan hard, Spain broke Tunisia down through the football version of Chinese torture.

They kept possession, passed well and ran hard at the Tunisian defense, who did not have the discipline to hold off Torres, Villa and later on, Raul. By the end of the game, Spain had over 60% of the possession, and on this performance, Spain are going to be really, really hard to beat. They will meet the runner-up from Group G – a toss-up between Korean Republic, France and Switzerland. Neither of them would stand a chance against this team.

Torres, a Manchester United summer transfer target and now the top scorer in the 2006 World Cup, scored an excellent second goal (thanks to a Fabregas pass that split the Tunisian defense in half) that showed his talent – on the other hand, 5 of his 8 shots were off target and he has to improve on his accuracy before being considered one of the greats. He is still not worth 25 mil, but if we are selling Nistelrooy we should get Torres definitely.
