South African team forced to abandon training for sponsor’s ad

The South African national team’s Wednesday training session didn’t go exactly as planned. Apparently the team were due to record a tv commercial for their sponsors but despite having the schedule decided six months go, no one had bothered to tell the coach or his team.

South Africa’s coach Joel Santana had to coaxed into agreeing to abandon the training session and allow his players to prance about in front of a camera. According to assistant coach Jairo Leal they won’t be using this as an excuse if they lose to Norway in Saturday’s friendly, but surely things could have been handled a bit better by all those involved?

South Africa play Norway in Rustenburg Saturday before heading to Switzerland for a match against Portugal in Lausanne Tuesday. Let’s hope they don’t miss their flight because of another commercial agreement no one told them about.
