Soccerlens turns 1 next month

Written by Ahmed Bilal. Tagged: Site News

How do you think Soccerlens can be improved?

For starters, I want to thank you for reading Soccerlens. Perhaps the only reason I’ve kept writing here is you kept coming back every day (or every week). You may not have left a comment on every post, you may not have let me know what you thought about my articles, but you came, and you read.

That alone is means a lot.

Second, I want to remind you that 19th April is the date that Soccerlens turns 1 - yes, it’s almost an year since I started Soccerlens, and it’s been a great ride. I want to make Soccerlens THE football fan site, so I’ll be doing everything I can (and everything you tell me to do) to make this site better.

Third - and most importantly - I want to thank Rocky, Ed, and everybody else for contributing and writing here. Couldn’t have done it without you guys. I know I’ve been late in putting up an author profiles section, but I will do it before 19th April, I promise.

Now you might be wondering - why am I getting the thank yous in now instead of next month?

Because I need your help.

1) Please tell everyone you know about Soccerlens - a short email with a blurb about why you read Soccerlens and a link to the site will do wonders.

2) Please tell me the ONE thing that you think will make you come back to Soccerlens more.

That’s not so much, is it? :)

Thank you for reading, and now we can go back to our regular schedule of snarkiness and (un)biased footy reporting.

  1. Nice site mate,

Live scores would keep me coming back ;)

I tend to agree with most of your articles… keep up the good work!

  2. March 20, 2007Hugo Steckelmacher

Do all of my uni work so I can spend time writing articles for SoccerLens? :P

  3. Have to say great site! Love coming into work in the morning and watching some videos! Like the Lampard versus the fan one! I would never have seen it had it not been for Soccerlens! I also like the fact that sometimes is slightly biased in Man Utds favour but you do encourage other supporters to write too.

This site is firfootball fans by football fans!

  4. More than anything I love the fact that it is mainly about Manchester United….and this is not a sarcastic remark in anyway. Also, this is one of the very few sites on the internet (and I have checked thoroughly) which I know I’ll be able to watch the videos from Man U and other games in case I missed a goal or wanted to watch it again.

Thank you for great articles thus far and looking forward to many more!!

  5. Chris - you mean something better than livescore.com? Or are you talking about minute-by-minute commentary like the Guardian does?

Hugo - secret tip - do less uni work :P

Alex and Serge - thanks for the support, the videos are something I’m going to be keeping up.

  6. Hi I am from turkey and this site is the best soccer site i have ever seen, Dontworry i will help u to grow up this site as soon as posible i can:D and i had also told all my friends this site so dont think more about the site, but you can put some new videos and you can do a video part and everybody would put best soccer videos like youtube:P:P i love soccerlens so keep writing please

i come to the site because i agree with most of the things people write here. . and thers just enough of a Man U slant (intentional or no) in most of the articles to warrent some interesting fan outbursts

if i had to say one thing though it would be the convinienc . .anything i missed on the (manu) game will most likely be on here, and if thers an incident thers video of it (which is what this site better than most news source based sites that iv’e gone to, such as the guaridan)

    anyhow good stuff all round

    A forum will be good

  9. Congradulations Ahmed :) I often visit to see what you guys got to say.

Idea: Blog posts in French, Spanish and Portuguese at some point. I know it might be hard but it’s just an idea.

  10. Marcel, thanks for the suggestion. Do you think BabelFish or Google is a better translation tool?

    Ahmed

  11. March 22, 2007Hugo Steckelmacher

Don’t use translation tools, Ahmed. You’ll look like an idiot. Better idea is to send articles to me and get me to translate (can do into French, Spanish or Catalan). All automatic translators are quite appalling.

  12. Change the template. There are lots of beautiful Wordpress themes. (And for your own good monetize your site. Not just google ads. Try text link ads and the like. They are non obtrusive)

  13. I keep hearing Google is way better.

  14. Hugo - I’ll take what I can get, but if you can really translate the articles, drop me an email to confirm :)

Red Ranter - really? you don’t like it? suggest one (or two) then. And don’t gimme a long list, I already have the long lists. Pick one :)

Monetization - yes, I know there is a lot I can do here, I’m just lazy (and hoping advertisers contact me instead of me catching a big fish).

Marcel - I hear the same about BabelFish as well - personal experience? But as Hugo said, manual is way better.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

  15. fantastic site and much more informative and interesting than the typically ‘professional’ footabll sites, keep up hte good work, maybe add a forum where people could discuss?

  16. I look up some good templates and let you know. Btw here’s something to ponder about. http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,,2039875,00.html

I thought it was pure class. Just when I thought he was going soft, the guy hasn’t lost even a bit of it! :)

  17. Red - yea, read that, it was pretty funny.

Is there something specific you think can be improved with the current design?

  18. March 23, 2007plasticscouser

I particularly like the articles by Andrew as he is dead clever, witty and funny. Its nice to have a scouser writing on a Man united site!

  19. April 2, 2007Ahmed Umair

start covering spanish and italian league soccer as well!

  20. Do you know how many people subscribing to to the newsfeed Ahmed? I mean unless I plan to comment I don’t even visit the page.

Also, I agree on the ManU thing. Since UnitedRant died a sudden death (and most likely, even before then) there weren’t any really good United centred opinion sites.

  21. DBeech - the number’s on the top-right of the sidebar.

I’m going to do more of an effort in getting back to the roots and doing a united roundup regularly.

  22. Yeh, not only did I see that after posting that post. But I also remembered that I saw that counter two days ago and forgot about it. I also have no idea why I posted in this old article. Is 21 too old to go senile?

  23. Err…. too young.

    Now I’m really worried.

  24. I’d stay off the drugs.
