Stumbled across this story on a related online search. Hilarious how accurate your prediction was about Villa needing 70 points and not coming close. This was some good Nostradamus stuff. Aston Villa shall not be moved? Er, yes they will, like a feather in the wind.

Villa are definitely going in the right direction. I think the key will be Arsenal though. It seemed that the Utd win had them back on track but now it seems like their season could go very pear shaped.

villa finishing over arsenal???that ll be fun to watch because that is not going to happen at all....arsenal mighht be in a bad patch at the moment..and maybe out of the title race...but we ll easily finish over villa...and winnin a game doesnt make it any less tougher...

arsenal will bounce back....and im hoping we do it well enough to atleast trouble the teams above us....and villa will finish 5th......

Well said tb. The historical points reasoning is a joke. For most of those years Villa had a 19th century chairman who thought £250 was a lot to spend on a player. Last summer Villa were the 3rd highest spenders in Europe. The fact that we have so many new players might explain the current lack of consistency but it will come, as will more new players in January. Let's face it, Wengers boys aren't exactly predictable these days are they? On Saturday we battered them and they were clueless. The author is spending too much time looking in the rear view mirror when the road ahead is changing all the time.

How does comparing their point totals over the past 5 seasons even approach competent analysis? Everyone here knows that both Villa and Arsenal are completely different teams than they were even 2 years ago let alone 5--so mentioning these have no use whatsoever in predicting how they'll do this season. How about, oh I don't know--looking at what they're doing THIS YEAR. Look at the Actim Index top 100 and see that Villa has 10 players while Arsenal have 8. Not a surefire indicator, but at least it would show that you are trying to analyze this season instead of seasons past.
