Chelsea are on the verge of losing talented playmaker Juan Mata to Manchester United in the next few days and the Blues could well lose yet another shining star Thibaut Courtois next summer, should Aletico Madrid pay the amount the London club demands.

According to The Mirror, Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has revealed that he is ready to pay £20m for Chelsea’s young goal-keeper Thibault Courtois.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insisted that Courtois won’t be available on cheap. And when asked whether the La Liga club would be willing to pay huge amount for the 21-year-old, Simeone said:

“Definitely. For me, anything paid for Courtois would be cheap. He’s a young guy who has a huge future and is on track to becoming one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

“Signing a goalkeeper of his calibre would be a big step, but it will not be easy. It depends on what Courtois wants. His club knows our needs, but it is not up to us, because he is not our player.”

Courtois joined Chelsea in 2011 but was immediately loaned back to Atletico, where he has been keeping the gloves for the past three seasons. His impressive performances over the years have made Atletico one of the fierce competitors and for the first time in many years, the Rojiblancos are looking to break the duopoly in Spain.

Mourinho is keen to bring the youngster to provide competition for the No.1 Petr Cech but the Belgian international admitted that he won’t accept roles on the bench anymore.

It seems like Atletico would be willing to pay over £20m to secure the signature of the youngster permanently.

It is a very critical situation for Chelsea. They cannot guarantee him regular first team actions, until Petr Cech is there at the club. Should they sell him for a high price?
