Marco - I appreciate your comments. I feel that I gave Mr Flores a great deal of credit in my article, and deservedly so. However, the fact remains that due the amount of money he has spent, and his inability to deliver trophies (yes, the team shows great promise, but under Flores they seem to buckle - and I won't go into his rumoured run-ins with players), Flores' job ought to be under a fair bit of pressure. You make a fair point about the goal difference issue; I wasn't using this to illustrate the fact that they aren't necessarily playing beautiful football - on the contrary, I meant to show that they aren't really playing well at all. People will say that the ability to grind out results is the mark of a champion - but you should not always have to grind, and what's more, the only two legitimate tests in the league have left Valencia with 0 points. As I say in the article, give him till [near] the end of the season, and if he hasn't succeeded, sack him. And plague Mourinho with phone calls. Speed dial.

Firstly, I should start by pointing out that when it comes to manager assessment, club presidents tend to have a very short memory span. It doesn't matter too much what you've done for the club in past years, if you're not performing to expectations this year, you might very well find yourself in the ejection seat.

With that being said, from your account Hugo, Flores picked up Valencia in 2005 at a difficult time, and turned the club around with good signings such as Joaquín and David Villa (despite Joaquín's inconsistent form, I still regard him as a player with greater potential than Simão or Nani). So in that light Valencia can be grateful to him, for what he did when he took the helm. However, in the end his good job in 2005 won't mean squat if Flores can't deliver the goods this year. Right? So far so good.

Now, I don't follow the Liga closely enough (so I can't even make a judgment on Flores's recent transfer signings), but it seems to me that Valencia aren't doing too badly in the standings right now. 15 points out of a possible 21 is frankly not bad and yes, the goals for/goals against ratio doesn't speak in favor of the team, but in football what matters most is to win games, right?

Now I know in Spain they have a different mentality about that kind of thing: getting victories is not enough, you must also play a 'spectacular football' (reason why Capello got fired, right?). If you ask a fan though, and give him a choice between "your team is playing 2 matches: would you rather have them win 3-0 the first, then lose 0-1 the second, or would you prefer two boring 1-0 wins?", guess what they're going to tell you?

In the CL, Los Che aren't doing too bad either. Ok they lost a home game to Chelsea, but they also obtained a difficult away win to Schalke. Frankly, based on Valencia's current record, I see no reason for Flores to be sacked. Again though, I must point out that I can't judge anything else other than the results I see, but in the end that's what club presidents are looking for, right?
