Should Tottenham sign Frings this summer?

Here’s a question for Tottenham fans? Do you think Torsten Frings - the Werder Bremen midfielder and German international - would be a good addition to the current Tottenham squad?

Now before you guys hurl abuse at me :) here’s what I’m looking for - I’ve watch Frings play, and I know this much about him - he’s a hard-as-nails, quality midfielder who relishes being the star of the show. He can run the midfield, has a ridiculously good long-range shot and overall he’s a decent player who can do quite well for Tottenham.

The downside for Tottenham would be that he’s temperamental and moody, so he might not take lightly to being rotated in the Tottenham midfield by Jol. Plus with Zokora, Huddlestone and Jenas already there, the midfielder coming in should be top-notch so he can cement his place, not someone who’s in and out of the squad.

For my money, Frings can fit the bill.

What do you guys think?

  1. Would be a pretty decent signing.

Ahmed you little devil…you’re trying to start another rumour! I don’t think MJ will be looking at him to be honest - he’s a talented player, but now quite ageing, and with Huddo and Jenas I believe we are well covered in central midfield (not to mention the expected improvement from Zokora next season).

  3. On the contrary - I’m asking if they think it’s a good choice.

Personally, Frings brings the bite AND experience that the Tottenham midfield has been lacking. Huddlestone, Zokora and Jenas are not as experienced, and Tainio is no good.

  4. Spurs need a left winger. Nothing more nothing less.

  5. A midfielder that can improve the side should be welcome too. I think this guy can. And if players like Sheva can come into the Premiership and find that he isn’t the top shot he was in Italy, Frings shouldn’t mind too much if he’s not playing week in week out. He’ll be playing in a more exiting league. And earning more that his present club pays too.

  6. Ahmed,
You do go through all tabloids dont you?

    Anyways Frings :
    1) Good player, but dont you think the first priority for MJ should be a Winger, or to be specific, a Left sided Winger?
    2) With Frings in, you plan to start with Frings and TH? And rotate Zokora? or start with Zokora and Frings and rotate?
    3) Wont come cheap : Bremen wont be selling again.

  7. Tainio is bloody good! Pity he’s injured all the time

  8. “temperamental and moody” & “bite AND experience that the Tottenham midfield has been lacking”

Sounds like a certain dutch international legend that has just left us and exactly what he was supposed to bring to the team?!**!?

We need to buy a left winger which we have so desperately missed for the past 4 seasons! Anyone one who has played there for us has undoubtedly done their best but it has just not been good enough.

  9. Raju - no tabloid gave me this one :)

winger is the priority, but Tottenham lack the bite in midfield. Davids was too old when he came to Tottenham (and people forget that he had a good first season), Frings is a bit younger.

Frings and Jenas to start, Zokora as third-choice, coming in depending on who is injured / suspended / needs rest, ditto for Huddlestone except put him as fourth-choice

    Left winger - Downing :)

  10. Downing?

The only thing that prevents me from using “beautiful” words here is the smiley after the name Downing.
FA should appoint a commission to investigate whether
    1) Downing is Mc Clown’s love child
    2) Partner

  11. I think that Werder is better than Tottenham at the moment and Frings plays good in Bundesliga and there is no reason for him to move to Tottenham.

    Sorry mate,
Frings has just extended his contract with Werder turning down a 6.5m (euro) offer from Juve. Watch out for Bremen next season! With Klose, Frings, and hopefully Diego staying, we should see some fine stuff from them in the Champions League.
But in principle I agree that he would be a player that is well suited for the Premiership, and I love him as a character. Not sure though whether he would consider joining Tottenham. Not much hope to play Champions League football any time soon. Can’t really see any of the big four slipping.
