Should Newcastle sign Sibierski for another year?

Written by Ed Harrison. Tagged: Newcastle United

Antione Sibierski, who has fitted in at Newcastle this season like a duck to water - had some harsh words to say about England captain John Terry - after Newcastle’s 0-0 stalemate with the reigning Premiership Champions.

Sibierski said after the game:

“I was surprised John Terry was complaining because he is English. I didn’t touch him, or if I did it was no more than he touched me. We have to compete for every ball.”

But they felt the game was going against them because we were playing very well. We frustrated them. They were very disappointed, as they needed three points to have a chance of winning the title.

They were worried at the end, and it was a good feeling for us.”

Sibierski then admitted:

“We felt very happy after the game. We weren’t frustrated, as we had been the last few weeks after Charlton, Manchester City and Portsmouth.

We needed a performance like that against Chelsea. We did it, and we’re happy, even though we didn’t win.

I think we could have won - we could have done better with the chances we had. I think it’s a good point for us and a bad point for Chelsea.”

Antione has fitted in well at Newcastle and is one of the most honest and positive players you could ever meet.

On the other hand it’s not difficult to understand the frustration John Terry must have felt. Chelsea were given an excellent opportunity to reduce the points gap between them and Manchester United but failed to do so; and there will not be many more chances, if any.

Let’s hope Newcastle sign the Frenchman up for at least another year - he still has a lot to give to the cause - and we need players like Sibierski in the squad to keep everyone upbeat and positive.

  1. Why not he can be the senior striker for the young team to look up to ala Gunnar Solsjaer

  2. I don’t think he’s around Ole’s level - but he is a decent striker and should be kept around, definitely. With Owen and Ameobi fit he won’t get many chances but he is a reliable backup.

  3. Also I would expect young Andy Carroll to get playing time next season - he’s looked very good when he’s been brought on. Antoine certainly isn’t of same class as Ole.
  4. Ed, did you see the trick Ole pulled off in the Boro game? Knicked the ball out of the keeper’s hands to score?

    Fantastic stuff.

Btw, one thing about Dyer, Newcastle should give him a Joe Cole / Ronaldo role, he’s good enough to pull it off.
