Should Arsenal cash in on Adebayor?

Should Arsenal cash in on Adebayor?

Earlier on this season I wrote a column highlighting why I thought Emmanuel Adebayor was pivotal to Arsenal’s success and that the doubters had to see sense and appreciate the importance he has to Arsene Wenger’s side.

I admit it. I’ve changed my mind.

I still stand by my opinion that Adebayor has great ability and that his natural style benefits the way the Gunners play but the truth is, to be successful in sport you have to have great desire. And I don’t see very much of that from the Togolese striker these days.

Character is so important. All Arsenal fans have to do is look at the rival strikers they come up against in the Premier League; Torres, Gerrard, Drogba, Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo. They are all world class but they also have world class drive to go with their natural ability.

Adebayor had it when he first joined Arsenal no question. He ran the channels, he chased loose balls, he made things happen. Not anymore. It’s as if the light has gone out for him. The spark has disappeared.

When Wenger needed him most against Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United, Adebayor quite frankly disappeared.

It seems to me as if the boy’s head has been turned and if that’s the case then I firmly believe Arsenal should cash in on him, this summer and trade him in for a hungrier model.

His time at the Emirates appears to be nearing an end.

Are you in the Adebayor-stays or Adebayor-goes camp? I’ve switched sides…

    Yeah, why not?
They’ll be able to get some price for him, and they could replace him with someone with a better attitude and paycheck.

  2. Adebayor never had it and we need to sell him badly.
the only reason he scored 30 goals was because Eduardo was his foil, as soon as he became injured….. no more goals. this season when he was injured we put together a nice run, when he returned everything went sour not helped by Eduardo’s injury problems.

she should be sold………he does not have any desire to play for arsenal…….

he must stay he’s man? and u’cant do as he does! leave him alone ok?

  5. In a word ‘YES’. Since he had his pay rise, he does not want to work. His motivation is money not playing for Arsenal. If Arsenal was his motivation then last season’s headlines would not have appeared and when he got his payrise his form would not have disappeared. Let’s see him for what is is, a good footballer motivated by money and his own self importance. I was a huge fan of his until this season where his colours have been displayed. Sell him and play Jay Simpson! Once again, sell him and play Jay Simpson!

  6. Get rid. He is lazy and doesn’t understand the off-side rule. Watch him when a long ball is played to him (and his marker). Ade will peel away in the vain hope that the defender will make a mistake. He never does. Show him a video of his 2007 form when he chased and harried for every ball. This will prove why he is not good enough for the presentday Arsenal.

I make a case for either way i agree he has not put any effort in this season being lazy not running down the channels if you watch Rooney he defends as much as attacks when have you heard the commentator saying great tackle or clearance from Adebayor never.
However he can score goals if i was Wenger i would do what Fergie did to Ronaldo sit him on the bench let him get hungry again tell him he is going nowhere and think about why he got that contract dont let him go teach him a lesson for a couple of months then maybee he will realise the chance Wenger gave him and start to play again.
He should only look to Flamini and Hlebb who are bit players at those so called bigger clubs and remember the grass is not always greener and be carefull for what you wish for.
He needs to win the hearts of the fans back by nuckling down and working hard with goals and effort he can be a great asset to Arsenal without it he should be taught how cold a place the bench is and not be allowed to get a transfer

  8. Sell him, sell him ooooohh sell him…..please do. has anybody noticed or is it just me that the team has been playing much better since Ade’s recent injury. Now is the time for Arsenal. Please sell him.

  9. Honestly its a matter of the bid and who offers it. If its anyone in the league (Chelsea, Man City, etc.) it should be rejected regardless of price. Despite his lack of drive, he’s got undeniable talent and Arsenal don’t need him biting them in the but down the road. However if Milan or Inter offer at least 25mill, I would take it and run. We should be lucky that teams are still linking him worth 25mill after a disappointing season. All in all he still has much to offer any team he ends up on, he just needs an attitude change and he is that 30 goal-a-year-striker we remember (and yes that was Adebayor a while ago)

  10. Dont sell him inside the league, he’s got undoubted skill and talent, and Arsenal dont need him coming back to bite them in the butt down the road. But if Arsenal are offered the 25-30mill asking price from Inter or Milan, take it…it was a disappointing season and his price has stayed the same, Arsenal are lucky. He’s got loads of talent, he just needs a new attitude. If that changes, he will be that 30 goals-a-year striker we remember (yes that was Adebayor a while ago)

Yes get rid of Adebayor for as much money as possible and bring in Eidur Gudjohnsen from Barcelona to fill the role of goalscorer .Those of you who scoff at this suggestion
remember Henrik Larsson who was brought in by Alex Ferguson to do the job on a years loan (contract)and scored the goals for Manchester United not so long ago. It,s only for ayear but at least Arsenal will aquire a proven mature striker to guide the youngsters .It,s worth the risk.

Get rid of him. He has been crap all season with the exception of that one goal against Roma, which was a fluke.

First off, he isn’t that talented. His always offside and he always needs heaps of chances before putting one into the net. The only reason he scored so many seasons in the previous season was that Arsenal had the midfield trio of Flamini, Fabregas, and Hleb on song. Those three were combining to put everything onto a plate for him. Any striker could’ve done just as well with that many chances. Also, if you remember, 6 of his goals came from two games against Derby County. Not exactly the best team in the EPL that season.

Secondly, its quite obvious to everyone that he is motivated only by money. Despite his lack of talent highlighted above, he always used to put in the hard yards. This season was the opposite, after he got his big payrise holding Arsenal to ransom.

Lastly, if his valued at 25m, take it. With the 15m reportedly available to Arsene on top of any sales, a warchest of 35m would be more than enough to find a suitable replacement with enough change to buy a centre back and DMF

sell adebayor and buy benzema…great idea…its useless to keep adebayor in emirates…persie and benzema could be the great partner…wenger should invest more…no more young talents….
