Lyon’s new shirt sponsor: KOOL SHEN

Tagged: Lyon - News

I always though the first hip-hop artist or a rapper to get a football sponsor to promote themselves or maybe just be cool will be 50 Cent, Diddy, Snoop Dogg or someone of the like but thanks to Universal Music, KOOL SHEN steals the opportunity and becomes the first rapper to have his name appear on a football club’s shirt.

Ok, what has happened is that Lyon, BetClick and Universal Music have taken an initiative to promote the name of the rapper KOOL SHEN through the sponsoring of the shirt for the game against Marseille on Sunday. It is one of the biggest game in Ligue 1.

Olympique Lyon 09/10 Champions League Shirt

Lyon shares Group E with Debreceni VSC, Fiorentina and Liverpool. They will kick-off their Champions League journey on 16th of September against Fiorentina. They were third in Ligue 1 last season after winning it seven times on the trot (2002-2008). The fans did not take the third position too well.

Recently, Lyon has revealed a third shirt which will be worn on the away fixtures in the domestic league or in the European competitions when needed. It is a dark blue shirt manufactured by the English manufacturers Umbro.

lyon-adidasThe 2009/2010 kits for Lyon, manufactured by Umbro, were already revealed by the club (Lyon 2009/2010 kits). More recently, there has been news that Lyon has agreed to sign a deal with Adidas. The deal was signed on 7th August, 2009 and Adidas will be the official sports goods provider from the 2010/2011 season for ten years. The estimation of its worth is around five millions euros. Lyon will receive a minimum flat rate payment and royalty from the sales.

Lyon 2007-08 Away Kit

Tagged: Lyon

For the matches that Lyon will have to travel to, Umbro and Lyon management went with a kit that has little to do with the overall color scheme of the club. Little, yet still sufficient.

Going with the gold that is in the outline of the club’s badge and not cluttering it with other colors and designs makes this kit simple. However I think adding more than just a touch of red here, and a touch of blue there would have been smarter and made the kit look that much better. As it stands right now it is hard to look at and I personally think there were many other options Umbro and Lyon management could have gone with. Maybe a red kit, or a blue kit, or a combination of the two. The gold is not a bad color, just should not be the “only” color. I give it a 2 out of 5 stars and that is only because it is simple which makes it look good regardless.

Lyon 2006-08 Home Kit

Tagged: Lyon

It is not a secret that I think Umbro makes some of the nicest kits on the pitch in today’s game. Lyon will take the field for the home matches with a nice kit supplied by Umbro that matches the clubs color scheme perfectly.

Utilizing a solid field of white with nothing more than a red and blue stripe down the left side of the jersey makes this kit simple yet timeless. Matching the blue and red from the badge makes everything flow smoothly together, and for good measure throw an Umbro logo on the right side to make it official. I think with the simplicity that was showin in this kit, and many other kits produced by Umbro, they are one of the top manufacturers in today’s game. I give this kit a 4 out of 5 stars.
