Athletic Bilbao 09/10 Kits

Athletic Club Bilbao has been a part of La Liga since its start in 1928, winning it on eight occasions. It was rated the third club in Spain’s top flight football behind Real Madrid and Barcelona. At the end of last season Athletic signed a deal with Umbro but before that they used make their own kits and sell around 60,000 kits every year.

Athletic have launched their 2009/2010 kits.

Athletic Club Bilbao 2008/09 Kits

One of the luxuries about making your own kits is not having to rely on another company to follow your mental design of what the team should look like on the pitch.  The down side, in my opinion, is that the kits are not as nice looking as some of the others.  But maybe that is the key to having origninality.

Home

As many of the European clubs have done, Athletic has utilized stripes on their home kit.  Red and white stripes don the top with an oversized collar, a nice throw back to the old days.  One thing that I really like about this kit is how the stripes match the collar.  Often times the stripes will not align properly on the collar and/or sleeves, this time Athletic hit it perfectly for a nice looking kit.

Away

The away kit is much cleaner, but not as nice in my opinion.  I love the thought of an all blue kit, and I am alright with the red and white pinstripes across the front.  My issue lies in the badge and its location.  The front of the kit looks too busy for my taste, maybe if the badge was centered between the stripes my opinion might differ; however it is nice aside from that small flaw.

Third

While most clubs utilize a white kit as their home kit, Athletic has donned it as their Third.  All white, with green trim and red markings give it a great look.  However there is a large grey area in the center that is the same design as their badge.  To me it takes away from the top, but you can be the judge on that one.
