Ah, you are correct, Radiogagger. I was going by what the FSC commentators said and I really should have looked it up myself. My fault.

I think Diego would have definitely made an impact had he been allowed to play. Werder looked like they were going to exert their control over the match near the end of the first half until Shakhtar finished the period with a flurry. Werder lacked creativity in the final third and weren’t able to keep possession of the ball, even though they had Frings and Baumann. Then again, take nothing away from Shakhtar because they deserved it.

I was at the game and enjoyed more than i expected. (as a neutral) Shaktar were worthy winners, they moved the balled about very confidently. Maybe WB missed the two suspended players.

BTW, Liverpool won the CL in the then newly built Ataturk Stadium on the other side of Istanbul, not Fenerbahces ground.

If Darijo Srna plays for Shaktar, I wouldn’t write them off completely. Considering that the UEFA Cup has been won by Zenit St. Petersburg and CSKA Moskva in recent years, I wouldn’t be shocked if Shaktar gives Werder a game. Despite being contested by low key clubs (relative to the big name match up next week in Rome), I think we’ll see a good final. Especially after Werder dispensed of Hamburg the way they did, this should be an interesting match.

Kyle, I didn’t say that they were favorites because of their stars. I said that they had bigger names AND they are slight favorites. Different meaning.

Many of their stars are banged up or ineligible, so you guys might want to put some money on Shakhtar. Not that I condone gambling, of course…

Werder will not score two goals (i.e. if they score), judging from their past performance this season and the way Shakhtar has been defending. But Shakhtar has not been shy from scoring. Shakhtar should at worst draw 0-0, which will only happen if Werder lifts themselves. However, I predict a 2-0 win for them (Also 2-1 is slightly likely).
