Santa Cruz ready to ditch mid-table Blackburn for mid-table Manchester City

The international break is a breeding ground for dumb comments by players with little to do. All week we had Carragher talking about one thing or the other, when he would have been starting for England and helping them qualify for South Africa 2010.

And now we have Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz ready to jump ship for more money – and he’s pretty clear on his reasons too:

“City is a team with very important financial support.

I am happy at Rovers but I like the idea of playing for a team that will be fighting for important objectives.”

These objectives include, I suppose, finishing in the top-10 at a minimum. Which is probably what Blackburn have set themselves as a minimum target as well, and right now the only difference between City and Blackburn seems to be in ambition – performances on the pitch still suggest that they are relatively equal on the pitch, where it matters the most.

But Santa Cruz isn’t ‘dying’ for a move:

“I will keep on doing what I do at Blackburn but if the coach of Manchester City is interested in me, I would like to join Robinho in that team. He is a wonderful player and I would like to play next to him.”

But would he like to play next to you, Roque, or next to Adriano / Torres / Villa?

Are you naive or something, of course he wants to go to a team with big bucks and the opportunity to win something.
Are you surprised or is it a case of sour grapes ?

There are many reasons why Roque would want to join a MIDTABLE…CLUB like City:

    1) Mark Hughes & Bowen
    2) Best Academy in the Premiership (Millions of pounds will soon be pumped into it)
    3) Potential of actually winning something…
    4) Fantastic fans.
    5) WERE NOT BLACKBURN…
    6) Great players I.e Better players than Blackburn Rovers could ever dream of.
    7) Paul Ince…
    8) SUBSTANTIALLY BETTER WAGES
    9) Wouldn’t have to move home.
    10) We’ve always been better than Blackburn even before the takeover.

Why Roque would not want to join a BOTTOM HALF CLUB like City:

    1) Relegation 2001
    2) will never be as good as man utd. even with the money
    3) Not won anything sinse 1976
    4) all the big head fans who only support man city because they have money
    5) THEY ARE CITY
    6) ‘Great players’- who are knackered already. http://www.manchestercity.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=127839
    7) Paul Ince!
    8) Money isn’t everything.
    9) He likes Blackburn and his brother plays for us.
    10) better than Blackburn before takeover? 8 – 1 Middlesborough, relegation in 2001, no silverware since 1976, need I say more?

raz, you lot bought the league so shut up. He’ll want to play infront of near 50,000 fans instead of the 10 that turn up at ewood park. How about the fact he’s probably sick of that drum that all joke clubs with no fans have?

City will always be bigger than Blackburn, with or without one premier league.

You can’t buy the league. You can only buy a team.

Obviously City (clues in the name) will always be bigger than Blackburn (Town), nobody at Blacburn will tell you any different.

City fans are generally good supporters and need to be with the rubbish you’ve had to watch for the last few years.

You on the other hand are already showing Chelsea type symptoms.

Indeed city is a bigger club, and it will get bigger due to the money and all the ex chelsea fans now supporting it. And he’ll want to play in front of 50000? i dont think attendence means anything he left bayern munich to play for blackburn. and 50000? last i checked your average was 30 odd. Jay – your living proof of all the mickey mouse fans that will now support city. I have no beef with City fans, the real ones are normally good people, but as for taking the piss out of all other clubs and thinking your too big for you boots, you arent spurs fans right?

Im no City fans but Santa Cruz can’t be blamed for dreaming right? He knows with the money Hughes is going to bring in the best players to City and he wants his name to be part of it. And playig for Blackburn isn’t earning him that much press coverage so this is the only way he can get people to be talking about him. As for leaving Bayern his time was already up when Toni and gang came into Allianz and he moved to the next best league which was the EPL. Obviously he is using Blackburn as a springboard to a bigger club and he smells City are going to be the big club paying the big bucks he dreamt of when he came here. sO give the player a break. He can dream all he wants and sell himself but in the end its the manager’s decision to choose who he wants to partner Robinho with.
