Joe Cannon was on the Earthquakes team that won the MLS Cup in 2001. He is very much loved and was cheered even when he was with the Colorado Rapids after trying out Europe. Pat Onstadt was the Goalkeep for the Quakes in 2003 and in their Supporter's Shield winning side that went undefeated at home in 2005. That team was very good but was knocked out in the playoffs by the LA Galaxy.

The player on the side who played most recently on San Jose's MLS Cup winning sides was Ramiro Corrales in 2003 (yes as pointed out he also was on the 2001 side). Although he was tried at central midfield in 2004 the majority of his past San Jose career was spent on the wing or outside midfield position so he is in a new spot as the holding or defensive center-mid having focused on defense in Norway. Ryan Cochrane played for two MLS Cup winning sides in Houston, but he did not come to the team until 2004; he played at Santa Clara, so he is on his home field at Buck Shaw. The triumvirat of Cannon, Nick Garcia, and Cochrane has great potential for providing solid defense as San Jose gets back into the MLS for good.
Frank Yallop is without question an essential and important part of what Lew Wolfe and Billy Beane visualize as a great start for this YOUNG franchise. Yallop left for the Canadian National Team job before the 2004 season and gave it a go before running headlong into the disarray that is the powers that be in Canadian "Football". The support was in a word, horrible, and so he took the headcoaching job at Los Angeles...a hire the LA Riot Squad were rightfully proud of. BUT, that was before the circus came to town, and now that Frank Yallop is BACK IN SAN JOSE and can focus JUST on footie and not marketing the GALAXY to the world, good things are bound to happen! So come out to Buck Shaw and see what good FOOTIE is all about- it may take a few matches, some time and patience, but when the hard work and belief is there it will all eventually fall together beautifully! Why not get in when it all started again? I'm in Arlington, Virginia and I have a season ticket! Whats holding you back!?????!!!
