What They Said: Moyes & Wenger on January transfers

Manchester United manager David Moyes has hinted that the Red Devils might not do any business at all in the January transfer window.

The Old Trafford giants have made a poor start to the season and are lying 7th in the table, 11 points behind league leaders Arsenal. The general consensus among the fans is that Manchester United need to bolster the squad in the winter, but it seems Moyes has other ideas.

Already, this week he has said that he cannot guarantee whether Wayne Rooney will commit his future at the club, should they miss out on top four, and now he insists that he might not do any business in the winter transfer window at all.

When asked if he would be making any signings, Moyes said: “I don’t think so. I think most of the business will be more towards the summer rather than January.”

Arsene Wenger What They Said: Moyes & Wenger on January transfers

Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger might delve into the transfer market to sign one good striker. Though the Frenchman didn’t say openly, but he has hinted that the Gunners could be forced to enter into the market, after injuries to Theo Walcott and Nicklas Bendtner.

“With Theo, he has a knee problem,” he went on, “We don’t know if it is a stretched ligament or just a kick, he got two kicks onto his knee.

“Of course if we lose Theo for a longer period, it is a problem.”

He added: “I am waiting to see now who walks out there and knocks at the door, waiting to come in, but honestly, do we find better than the players that we have got?”

Theo Walcott got injured yesterday and was stretchered off against Spurs in the 3rd round of the FA Cup tie. It will be interesting to see, whether Arsenal buy a new striker in the winter or not.

  1. What I think now is that arsenal coach should try and get a good striker that will convert half chance.

  2. I think moyes is running mad by not signing any player. He should sign atleast two midfielders and a striker if he has hopes of playing champions league next season.

  3. Moyes is confused. With the Man U midfield so timid and Van Persie’s injury prone nature starting to show, they will be confined to mid table at bat by May if no new signings are made.
As for Wenger I know he is very stubborn but to say no signing of a striker will be made is unbilievable. We may be fighting for fourth place soon if no new striker arrives as Giroud could get worn out. At least Martinez is there for grabs.

  4. Moyes has lost his team. The midfield has no control of the game, United tries to build from the back and not through the midfield. Passes from the midfield are late and uninspired often they are simply to get rid of the ball. The back four and the midfield constantly lose their shape. Spurs used simple triangles to occupy the ball and have the ManU stars running about chasing the ball like a pre teen team. Their game plan seems to be to have individuals make inspired runs and hope a mistake happens. Even George Best couldn’t win titles with that style. The team needs a center. Not a center back but a strong midfield that is cohesive and controls the 40 yards of midfield. ManU players hold worried faces through out the game and there is very little synergy. MOYES you have only one quality midfield whom thinks he is a forward – Rooney. Wake up David!! You need to gain quality players or play the youth and toss this season away.
