Rumour Mill: Tevez, Trezeguet and Mido

Written by Ahmed Bilal

3 days left before the transfer season ends, and all the tabloids seem to be working overtime.

Here’s the latest on Tevez, Trezeguet and Mido.

Arsenal

The Sun is in rare form today. They’re linking Tevez with Arsenal, saying that Arsenal will launch a 17 mil bid for the Argentine. Goes totally against what we’ve been talking about Arsenal, especially when you see the wealth of attacking talent at their disposal. Arsenal’s needs lie in the defensive and midfield departments - Tevez is not going to Arsenal, not if Chelsea and Manchester United can do anything about it.

There is, however, still a good chance that Arsenal may actually sign someone in the next 3 days. The Mascherano trail has gone quiet, but considering that he has met with Arsenal officials after the Zagreb game last week it is possible that Arsenal made a renewed offer for him. Mascherano will cost at least 16 mil, and with Reo-Coker also linked to Arsenal you have to wonder whether Wenger will spend so much money on one player when he could get two quality players from the Premiership itself (Gallas and Reo-Coker).

Manchester United

After being linked to Torres, Tevez and Adriano, this link with Trezeguet is embarrasing. A 10 mil deal is reportedly in the offing with United having already met with Trezeguet’s agent and made an offer to Juventus.

Now I know that Trez scored 29 goals in the Serie A and CL last season, but why is Manchester United going for Trez? With the form Saha is in, you can’t expect him to sit on the bench - strikers need long runs in the side to hit their form, so how will Trez and Saha fit in together? Saha’s understanding with Giggs and Ronaldo is the product of almost an year’s worth of hard work in training - are we going to wait that long for Trez to click?

Then there’s the issue of Manchester United’s transfer budget - we should have enough for a midfielder and a a striker, but do we have the 27 mil for Hargreaves and Trez? I’d rather get Hargreaves here, and if Trezeguet is coming to Manchester United I hope that Ferguson has Haestad or Reo Coker lined up as well.

Update: Sky Sports says that United tabled a 17 mil offer (fkn kiddin, right) and that Juve are saying that Trez isn’t going anywhere. Bloody well hope so.

Tottenham

The Guardian says that Tottenham have reached an agreement with Roma over Mido, and that for 3.4 mil plus defender Rodrigo Defendi, Mido should be a Tottenham player (again) by Wednesday.

Mido should conclude the move in London today or tomorrow, subject to a medical and personal terms, before flying to Egypt to prepare for a weekend international against Burundi. In fact it was his international team coach who first revealed that Mido will be travelling to London to sort out footballing matters before linking up with the team on Wednesday.

Cheap transfer, good value for goals. But Tottenham’s biggest problem (the left wing) is still unsolved - if they go into September without signing a left-sided player who will they use to plug that gap? Robbie Keane?

Tottenham are also after Steed Malbranque, although from what I’ve been hearing over the weekend Steed is heading towards West Ham, not Tottenham.

3 days to go, and then we’ll be done with this mess.

  1. I think the entire f%$%$# board at ManU should be shot. It does not appear as if they have any sense of what’s going on. The Bayern Munich issue makes me wonder if they even have (had) an action plan? Would it not have made sense to swop Ruud to Bayern in exchange for Hargreaves? I suppose it would have if they knew at the time that they wanted him?!?!?
Why do they wait until the very last because this is the time when people will spike the prices. “you’re desperate, so you will pay what I’m asking for”. I am very upset with ManU’s transfer dealings. As things are, I would have prefered them not to sign anybody and rather take a shot with the team we had last season. For F#*ks sake, was a flippen keeper really a necessity at this point?
As things are, I would have then prefered for SAF to offer Quinton another year deal… at least we would have had some cover for O’shea in midfield.
    Bloody frustrating!!!

  2. what is wrong with SAF, i know that he is a master of late moves but trez??????? seriously i wud rather wnat him to go for an average ball winner than trez.. we desparately need one and this can be proved from the watford game…. o shea did well in the charlton one but we need him in the dfensive back four this time so i think time is running out and senna at 8 mill now looks like a great deal which united shunned….

  3. My consolation (what I keep telling myself) on the Ruud/Hargreaves issue is that maybe SAF sold Ruud to Real in order to discourage Ronaldo from going there…

Is it not against ManU’s “buy young” policy to buy a 28/29 year old striker?. I would have made more sense to make a move for Klose.

  4. Seems like Hargreaves deal is off. Ferguson might wait for him until January, so I can’t see any new medfielder arriving this week.
Right now we have five strikers - Rooney, Saha, Smith, Rossi and Solskjaer. It seems that MU has the striking force to overcome the loss of Ruud. So I don’t really understand why we need another striker right now, even if it is a very good one, like Trezeguet. It will only slow down the development of Smith and Rossi.

  5. Ok, as far as i know, United have been involved with 4 transfers this summer. I have only heard from United that we had been talking to Spurs about Carrick before the World Cup, same situation as Hargreaves. We were then told about the polish keeper, Kuszczak and also Marcos Senna.

This is of course silly season, and maybe some people should hold back their rantings and ravings before taking what NOTW, The Sun or these numerous gossip mongering websites as gospel. Coupled with the fact that United have needed some reinforcements, the media have linked us to every Tom, David, and Carlos.

So, how about laying off the attacks of our fine club and manager until we hear all the facts, instead of jumping on the bandwagon of all this media hype (to put it politely)?

On the Tevez link, he would be a great addition to our squad. It would enable Fergie send Rossi out on loan for 6 months or the season. Ole won’t be around for long (wipes tear from eye). Tevez is young and could be around Old Trafford for the next 6/7 years at his peak. Of course, this link is coming from the media, and the player’s agent (seeking more money???) so how reliable our link to the player is, i do not know!

So, come on people, at least wait until you’ve heard/seen the facts in front of our about our transfer dealing, before slagging the club and manager off. It’s time to get behind United, Fergie and the football we stand for! PErsonally i’m very optimistic about the season, we’re playing free flowing football, like our old selves, and it’s an absolute pleasure to watch!

    UNITED!!! UNITED!!! UNITED!!!

  6. I don’t know if Tevez or Mascherano are indeed going to Arsenal, but I think one or both will be playing in England this season, in whichever team it might be. After all, Corinthians’ president Alberto Dualib is said to be in London dealing with team investor partner MSI, and likely that will help sealing any deals the team may have in mind before the end of the transfer window. The fact Tevez has left the team and is staying in Argentina after fighting with the new coach at Corinthians may be just another sign.

Anyway, congratulations on your great blog!

    Cheers,

    Carlos

United dont need really Tevez.. and Trez is out of the question, not going to happen. Rather than getting a striker we dont need and a sub par midfielder, throw £20mil at Bayern and see what happens…. the Carrick and Hargreaves pairing is a mouthwatering one for United and England for years to come.

  8. Defensive Midfielder - Now that’s the priority, isn’t it? Really? Utd had 20-30 mil prior to the sale of RVN and scum head turned JOMikel. Yet we’ve only shelled out on Carrick.
So that would lead me to believe utd really have no money or the board and it’s startegy makers are down right incompetent.

    My money is on both.

  9. what are you saying about tevez now chris, i bet you want him now.
