Arsenal should have sold Henry for the same reason they should have sold Vieira an year earlier or United should have sold Ruud an year earlier – you don’t sell players when they’ve ‘started their decline’. Loyalty is good, and you shouldn’t let your best players go, but this isn’t Freddie who wouldn’t have fetched more than 15 mil in his prime. This is Henry, a superstar who was visibly going in a different direction than the club the moment he was the only senior player who would stay next year. 30 mil vs 10-15 mil – that’s the hit for a season Henry was undoubtedly not going to be his best in.
