Rumour: Arsenal legend Henry headed for Real Madrid, not Barcelona
Disclaimer: this is not supported by any shred of evidence, so take it as a flight of fancy and whimsical indulgence rather than anything serious, like…um, football news.
Thierry Henry to leave Arsenal? Say it ain’t so!
Rumour has it that despite Henry realising that he needs to rest and earn a spot in Arsenal’s starting 11 based on form and fitness, he’s still on his way out. He’ll follow in the footsteps of other great Premiership footballers and head to Spain.
Right now The Sun - that paragon of serious journalism - is reporting that Barcelona are preparing another bid to prise Henry away from Arsenal. But apart from the fact that this is just opportunistic bullshit, it’s also a bit inconsistent with Henry saying that he’s Arsenal for life and that he’d never go to Barcelona.
After all, you’ve got to believe a man when he says vehemently that he will never do such a thing (just like he swore he’d never dive…ummm, scratch that).
Not Barcelona then - that leaves us with Real Madrid, home to the Capello revolution but more relevantly for Henry, home to high-maintainence Premiership superstars that are jettisoned by their clubs (David Beckham, Michael Owen, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Woodgate, Thomas Gravesen). I can only imagine how good Henry’s first year at Real Madrid will be - Beckham was unstoppable in 2003, Owen wasn’t started but kept scoring and scoring and now Ruud’s banging them in like he’s there to prove a point (come to think of it…).
Henry to Real Madrid?
Sounds a bit more honest than Henry at Arsenal for life, doesn’t it?
On a serious note, I think Arsenal should have sold Henry to Barcelona for 30 or 35 mil and re-invested that money back into the team and bought in serious reinforcements. Next summer they won’t get more than 20 mil for him, and as assets go, that’s a big hit to take. Not every team is Chelsea - Sheva went for twice the price, Barca or Real won’t play that game. Oh well…hopefully he’ll get back in shape and start playing like we know he can.

this is possibly one of the worst columns on football i have ever read, designed to annoy arsenal fans.
Shameless hit-mongering.
I’m sure you’ve noticed that a story about Arsenal generates more hits from NewsNow than for any other team.
This is just bullshit.
What a load of old cobblers.
Where did you find this rubbish?
Please watch what I type and I quote “I AM STAYING AT ARSENAL FOR LIFE”. I dont know how people fail to understand plain English.
It’s about time people put this sort of tripe out for recycling or just click on delete. Its not worth the paper/ink its written on/with and neither are the journalists that write it.
Only trust in the Official website or from the horses mouth.
*Arsene Knows*
your bullshit is beyond believe:
“but more relevantly for Henry, home to high-maintainence Premiership superstars that are jettisoned by their clubs (David Beckham, Michael Owen, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Woodgate, Thomas Gravesen)”.
Gravesen, Owen, Woodgate are they still playing for madrid?
“On a serious note, I think Arsenal should have sold Henry to Barcelona for 30 or 35 mil ”
you are a mug! Henry is the best striker in the world. what is the point of selling him to buy other players that cannot do what he does. your argument is ill-thought out and fickle.
Jack - no mate, you’ll notice that I don’t need to try that, apparently Arsenal fans aren’t hard to piss off, you just have to think differently from them.
ArseBlog - no actually, Tottenham stories generate more hits, surprisingly enough. United stories get good coverage too, but that’s probably because this site has more United fans in its readership.
Yes, it is NOT serious. It says at the beginning that it’s made-up. Thank you for refusing to note the obvious and acting like a child who can’t resist arguing even when he knows the other person is not serious and … best part … is doing this for themselves, not to get kicks out of retarded reactions.
Freddie71 - I repeat, I made it up. WHIMSICAL. Try understanding that first.
MVFC - Yes, but you won’t be laughing when Madrid make a move
Bean - Actually, you have trouble understanding the argument. Arsenal should have sold Henry for the same reason they should have sold Vieira an year earlier or United should have sold Ruud an year earlier - you don’t sell players when they’ve ’started their decline’. Loyalty is good, and you shouldn’t let your best players go, but this isn’t Freddie who wouldn’t have fetched more than 15 mil in his prime. This is Henry, a superstar who was visibly going in a different direction than the club the moment he was the only senior player who would stay next year. 30 mil vs 10-15 mil - that’s the hit for a season Henry was undoubtedly not going to be his best in.
It hurts, but believe me it always hurts when your favourite/best players are sold. But it’s the club that comes first, no?
i have no trouble understanding your argument, it’s just ill-thought out and fickle. “started their decline”? you’ll be the first one licking henry’s cornhole when he’s bang in form again and winning us trophies.
of course the club comes first but for you to suggest that you know more than wenger about when to sell players, and also to whom, is about as believable as the yid’s getting a champion’s league place.
inshallah we’ll all be celebrating when henry lifts the champion’s league trophy in May, and i don’t particularly enjoy arguing with fellow gooners (sorry Ahmed, don’t know who you follow), but think about it mate, Henry’s just going through the mill at the moment. he’s played over 60 games so far this year and lost in 2 major finals (arguably undeservedly, but that’s a whole new argument). he will be back, and he will be a better player and captain because of this break.
Bean Henry stopped wiinning you trophies a while ago and he is not about to stop.
However this dressing down by Wenger will put him back in line, set his currently pathetic atittude back on line and having Firing on all cylinders again. For your sake… So that he can start acting like a ture captain which he can be
wrong Keith. the loss of mostly all of our experienced players over the course of an 18 month period, our fragility and naivety away from home, our repetetive defensive errors and a move to a new stadium have stopped us winning trophies. to pin it all on henry is slightly facile and also grossly unfair.
Yes Keith,Bean is right, you can’t blame em for stuff like that…Henry is a top top Pro…just that the current side is a bit tactis naive thats all…and when they gel plus Henry at the leading the pack,an unbeaten streak could yet be on the card…so pls do not argue guys, let time gives it all a rest
Bean - a united fan, as you must have figured out by now. By ‘decline’, let me assure you that no matter how good Henry is, he’s not going to play at the same level as he did 3 years ago. Or 2 years ago. It’s not criticism, it happens to all players, it’s part of the “getting old” process.
Managers have been wrong before - too often they make changes when the rot is apparent to them in training but not on the pitch itself. I’m talking about taking action before things get bad in training.
You know why Ruud was sold? Or why Keane was thrown out?
Neither player would adapt to the system Ferguson was building.
Henry has got to adapt to the new team Wenger’s building (and he’s building a new team, I’m sure you can see that), otherwise he’s a liability, no matter how great he is. I have a feeling he’s not going to be able to adapt, because there was too much focus on him in the last year, and now it’s going to shift.
Henry will return and be a great player - but Arsenal could have done better for themselves by banking the 30 mil and investing it in 3 more players. An extra player in defence and midfield and a fit replacement for Henry would have been nice, no?
Ok let me tell you guys something(I AM A GONNER) that chances are Henry will leave. So many people have said I WILL NEVER LEAVE MY CLUB like Figo and barca guess what it happened. And he will move not because Arsenal is losing but because He is just plain done with Arsenal,he does not need to prove anything to Arsenal anymore.
One thing you’ve all got to realize is that all the henry news is coming from Barcelona, not Arsenal. They are making more stuff up every day!
Remember when they signed him last year as well!! Oh and they signed Viera the years before! they just keep tugging at players, using people like us to make it impossible for a player to stay!
If we want him to stay we’ve got to make him feel like we want him to stay instead of just throwing in the towel! We’ve got to fight to keep our best players!
The fans are the reason Heny will stay or go!!
