I'm not doubting that he has the ability, I just feel that there will be a lot of people who are sceptical of whether or not Sunderland are going to stop being a "yo-yo club". It's only once we establish ourselves as a true premiership side that I believe the real big names will start arriving.

People like Dwight Yorke and Stern John are all good, but it'd be nice to get household names that have more than a couple of seasons left in their legs.

Tommy Sparkles - think you may be underestimating Keane's ability to attract top talent to Sunderland - am expecting there to be some top signings by Keane and Quinn this summer - mark my words.

Agree with the rest of your sentiments - Sunderland and Newcastle should key off each other for success - was expecting to be blasted by some Magpies fans - but that hasn't happened (yet).

Nothing better than to have both successful - which is very possible!

As a Sunderland fan it's great to see people from a neutral point of view praising the squad and management, and even better to get some praise off the mags!

Any true Newcastle fan wants to see Sunderland in the Premiership and doing well (as I do Newcastle) as it's what makes the derby the biggest game in football the world over.

With Sir Quinny and King Keane at the helm the sky really is the limit. We have number of decent players now, should be getting a couple more (I've heard some delicious rumours regarding Diego Forlan and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but they're only rumours!) but I have to say that it'll take years before we can attract big big names like Newcastle have always managed (Owen, Shearer etc). The main thing we have going for us is attitude and togetherness in the squad, much like when we just missed out on Europe two seasons in a row.

We need to keep a level head, not get overly confident and make sure that we have a full house every week to spur the lads on.

Ed, there's not enough space in the top 6 for all the teams we want to be there :)

Toby - I think there is a distinct possibility that Sunderland will be very close to Newcastle next season - they may be a good bet.
Hopefully they could both be in the top six - that would be tremendous - am kind of hoping the phenomenal success at Sunderland will spur Newcastle on.

Hope springs eternal.

I'd laugh me knackers off if the toon got shunted off their lowly perch by sunderland...

Roy Keane is perfect great-manager material - kind of like Mourinho with a stanley knife...

Somehow, I doubt that Keane would ever give up the chance to manage United. He'll go there on his own terms, surely, but Keane not manage United? That sounds too strange to believe.

Monday's papers say Quinn will give Keane $25M - depending on what he wants. They will also extend Roy's contract by two more years and say he will be on $3M/year. That means he has four years to run with his renewed contract.
Quinn seems to be the perfect chairman - he and Keane are both so positive.
Really think Keane may think twice about eventually leaving Sunderland for ManU - if he is ever offered the job,
In four years Sunderland could be a really top class team....completely created by Keane.
Anyway - it's a bit of a fairy tale story - good for Sunderland.
