Benitez might not have the backing of the board, but he certainly has the backing of the fans, and it would take either an extremely brave or extremely stupid chairman to oppose his fans. Southgate on the other hand has the backing of the board, but not of the fans. Unless things drastically improve (which looks unlikely given our current awful luck with injuries), I can't see him making it to 2008. I reckon Southgate will be next to go.

It is no secret that both of these 'possible destinations' can pay more than Liverpool, and in Madrid's case the transfer funds seem to be almost unlimited.
