My dear Friend Schuster,

Do you know what we lack at present?

Its only one word REPLACEMENT.

Please adopt to the Jose mourinho policy, (even though i hate him) he tought frank rijkarrd that you cannot always rely on your best 11, there is always a term called subsitution in football, which most of he coaches don't believe in.
Just look at the Barcelona Squad or the Chelsea Squad.
If Ronaldinho goes-Iniesta (no big name but eqally talented) comes in.

If Xavi goes-Yay Toore (no big name but eqally talented) comes in.

In Chealsea Even though they have J.cole and Shuan Wright (wingers)
They signed Malouda as a Sub.

If Lampard goes-Ballack ( big name and eqally talented) comes in.

Essian Goes- Makelele comes in.

Now lets See our Team.

If Robinho Goes, Real Madrid Loses to ALMERIA, BETIS, ROMA and GETAFE.

I know defeat is a part of football, but have you ever tried to analyse that we are short of talented players on our bench.
1. Do we have anyone like Ben-Arfa to Substitute Robinho?

2. Do we have anyone Like Samir Nasri
to Substitute Guti/Schneider/Baptista.
(Even though NASRI is far ahead in skills and passes its a shame that till now we have not Bid for him...for our New Zidane)

Although i am a Die Hard MADRIDISTA
i don't think we deserve to win the La-liga and the Champions league. Forget Champions League we can't even Beat a team like Chelsea or Man utd.

Sir Schuster, PLease take a note that even our defence is so poor, Just see Marcello, I think you should send him for Tutions to CLICHY at arsenal, atleast he will learn something. Miguuel Torres is a good defender but Lacks in Pace, I don;'t know if you would ever consider my advice but This is my Dream Squad which by the Grace of God if happens than atleast Other clubs would have a Mental presurre looking at our Squad.

1. CASILLAS (Best in the World)
2. RAMOS (Best Right Back)
3. PEPE (Best in Europe)
4. some one like Vidic......You decide
5. some one like Clichy...You Decide
6. ROBINHO
7. SAMIR NASRI
8. GAGO
9. ROBBEN
10. BENZEMA
11. RAUL

SUB:
1.Nistelrooy for Raul
2.Higuain for Benzema
3.Schnedier/Guti for Nasri
4.Ben-Arfa for Robinho or Robben
5.Drenthe reserved for any Injuries to wingers
6. Metzelder Subs for any Central Def
7. Dudek for our Galactico CASILLAS
8. Miguel Torres reserved as LB or RB

Please don't feel bad for any of my comments but i was just frustated when people say that Can you compare your Present Real Madrid to your Own Past. The answer is no. We can't compare ourselves to our past. But what we have to make sure is that Since we are a club of years of Tradition and Reputation for being World;s Famous and Richest Club we should also maintain that level by Signing Some New Talents where we can atleast Score one to level things up when Club like Getafe Scores on our Home Soil.

Please Sir Just a Request.
Please BID for these

1. Clichy
2. SAMIR NASRI
3. BENZEMA
4. someone like Vidic/Kolo Toure
5. BEN ARFA

Please Make a competative Squad where people should fear O my god its REAL MADRID in the next round of UCL.

Regards,
Sayed

It now looks like Schuster will start both Gago and Diarra in midfield, potentially opting to bring Baptista in as a second-half substitute. Real is likely to hit on the counter, expecting Guti to hit one or two of those defence-splitting passes he does so well (when he's switched on, which is not always). Hopefully Robben will bring some speed to his wing.

Pracchia - at least half of your team isn't incapacitated. Nearly all of Real's best players are carrying some sort of knock: Robinho (out), Raúl, Van Nistelrooy, Sneijder (out), Pepe, many others! And Real lost!

Considering your evaluation of Roma's midfield, I agree, Diarra is probably the best choice. Madrid have been effective when playing Capello-ball against teams with powerful, attack minded football: They sit back and defend for a bit and then launch waves of powerful counters.

A possible midfield against Roma, sans Robinho, might be Robben-Baptista-Diarra-Guti. Guti has played extremely well when lined up as a right winger, then floating towards center. However, this is usually most effective when Ramos is behind him at right back, to cover the flank and push the ball up along the touchline. That would require Heinze to play centerback, and Torres or Marcelo on the left. I would guess Torres, being a far more capable defender.

Great write up, Hugo. Thanks!

Hi john, thanks for the message. You should know that this preview was written before Robinho was injured, and as such I would expect Robben to start in his stead. Equally, Guti's masterclass on Sunday could force Schuster to reconsider - though not necessarily, as the Real manager has already proven that he is willing to drop anyone at any time if the occasion calls for it.

Roma's central midfield is hugely solid, as De Rossi and Perrotta are equally adept at breaking up as play as at distributing the ball. They have a tendency to form a sort of "wall" in tandem. I would expect Diarra to play rather than Gago as Gago often lets the team down in tense matches (inexperience), whilst De Rossi should not be afforded too much time on the ball to pick out penetrating passes. Generally I just think that Diarra is a better and more effective player.

There are a couple more factors to consider when guessing Madrid's line-up. It appears that Robinho won't be fit for the tie after suffering a stomach muscle tear in the 7-0 romping of Vallodolid. Possible replacements at left wing include Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robben and Royston Drenthe. Also, Diarra is no sure bet for a start in the central midfield, with Gago gaining favor for his mobility and ball distribution, as opposed to Diarra, who is primarily a ball winner.

Question: How solid is Roma's midfield, defensively? Teams tend to do much better against Madrid when they mark the blancos at center midfield closely. Is this a likely tactic for Roma to employ?
