Robbie Keane and Claudine Palmer Land in Liverpool
Before this summer, Robbie Keane and Ledley King were two players you never thought would leave Tottenham. Quality players capable of walking into the starting lineups of the Top 4 sides, captain and vice-captain at the club, fiercely loyal and true icons in every sense of the word.
But even as Juande Ramos begins his ‘revolution’ by bringing in quality players and shipping out the deadwood, there are a few players at White Hart Lane who don’t believe. Dimitar Berbatov is one of them and to be honest no one would be too surprised – once United came calling and Tottenham failed to jump into the Champions League as they promised they would, he was going to go sooner or later.
Before Berbatov ships out though, another striker has made his move away from Tottenham quietly and without much fuss. Robbie Keane moves from London to Liverpool to play in the Champions League and stand a chance of winning the Premier League (yes, this is Liverpool’s year, didn’t you know?). He leaves behind a gaping hole in Tottenham’s squad – Keane was not only Tottenham’s most reliable striker of the past five years (Berba’s efforts notwithstanding), but arguably more valuable to Spurs than Berba’s goals.
Berba’s departure is more or less expected – Keane’s loss will evoke disgust and hurt in equal measures. The fact that he went before Berba – and is being paid close to 80k/week (according to the BBC) – will provide fuel for claims that all footballers, even the good ones, are mercenaries. As football fans are, Spurs will turn their back on their former hero and move on without him – Tottenham are now reported to be after David Villa, although the striker is also being tracked by the big two in Spain.
And Liverpool? They finally have that ‘quality’ second striker to play upfront – the 20m spent on Robbie is excessive but not more than the 15-18m demanded for Barry. Liverpool needed a top-notch striker to help them match their title rivals and now they have not one but two.
Whether the pair can lead them to Premier League glory is altogether a different story…

ROBBIE KEANE!!! YNWA
GET IN!! I HAVE ALWAYS LIKED THIS FELLA!! TOP CLASS!!
When Berbatov goes to MU it’s good, if Keane goes to Liverpool it’s disgust…YNWA
omg liverpool is loaded now they can match up to united or chelsea they surpassed arsenal with this pickup
relax, guys. they still have rafa benitez. he’ll come up with some way to crap everything up.
disgust from Spurs fans, and I never said Berba to Utd was good.
let barba go so that in the future manfc may sell players well for you SPURS.
Keane is a player I have admired for years, I still want another player I have a huge admiration in, David Silva if he were to become our next and final signing I would look at this as and EXTREMELY successful season :p
Come on Ahmed, get real, Keane wouldn’t start for any of the top 3 and he probably won’t start for Liverpool seeing as Gerrard plays in the link position. Liverpool don’t need another striker to improve anyway, their real problems are a lack of width, creativity and having Alonso as their only consistently good passer of the ball, Keane solves none of these. If you actually watch him you’ll realize that although hes a tricky player (in that he can do the unexpected) his football brain is pretty poor, I can’t wait to see him and Gerrard getting in each others way next year to be honest. He’s a top six player who will only get worse with age. Theres no way they’ll break the top two.
Not as a regular, of course.
RK gives them width, and yea, I’ve watched him enough to know that he can adapt his game as long as the players around him are quality.
ahmed ….you are the one of the most biased bloggers/writers(includin the sun and paul mcnulty)ever
.why don’t go to the manchester united blogs rather than soccer lens where unbiased blogs would be appreciated rather than your weekly manc crap.
and about robbie keane….i cant get y r u soundin as if he stabbed spurs in the back while theyre havin big probs…he left them after 6 years of unselfish service and at a time when they have a manager who is building a team which looks stronger than arsenal(no offence arsenal fans) on paper more so if they get the one of arshavin or pavlyuchenko(villa is going to madrid).and theyve got 20 million for him…not 10 million like.
robbie keane loves liverpool since he was a kid….i am sure he would not have left spurs if any other bpl league came calling

ynwa keane and kopites
indian kopite – i take it none of what i say jives with your view of the world?
its not biased he just stated the facts that berbatov has been linked with a move away from tottenham for a long time and since hes only been there for a season its not as big a loss as keane whos been an important part of the team for years.
fix your english and read the articles properly before you complain and if you dont like them dont read them!!!
MDH, Gerrards footballing brain is pretty poor but yet he hit 20+ assists last year. You dont have to be a Brazilian with quick feet or a Spaniard with lightning passing to be creative.
Y should spurs feel disgusted in selling berbatov?…accept the reality whites ur hypocrite chairman has’t said anywhere that berbatov isnt for sale at any price….all this showbiz is for a few extra pounds…i am sure if some other foreign player would have been in berb’s place he would gone 2 united 2 seasons back…he is too good a player for a team which wins a cup once in a decade….and considers carling cup as holy grail.
keane is surely not gifted as berb’s and i dont think he would walk straight into liverpool’s starting line up,.. let alone manutd and chelski….but u spurs fans should respect berbatov for wat he has done till now and is still not pushing for a transfer and is not saying anything against u guys……
Liverpool fans don’t get too excited about Robbie Keane. He had a terrible end to last season and was looking over the hill (even for someone with no pace and flat feet). Maybe this move will rejuvinate him and initially I can see him and Torres scoring plenty of goals but wait until the novelty has worn off and he probably won’t even be a regular starter and £20m is a lot of money for a bench warmer. Don’t get me wrong, Robbie was one of the hardest workers we have ever had at WHL and will always get a fantastic reception from us but for £20m I’d have to say we got a fantastic deal.
Nah, your wrong there aswell Ahmed. He’s 28 so he’ll only get slower, I don’t see how can add width. And your statement that he’s an adaptable team player is absurd, it’s not just innacurate it’s actually the polar opposite of the truth. He does produce moments of brilliance but theyre mostly impulsive. When he acually has to think about what he’s doing and take others around him into consideration he usually makes the wrong decision or messes up the play, not really a trait that you’d associate with a world class player. I guess on the weekly highlight programme you watched spurs matches on probably it didn’t show the numerous counterattacks and openings ruined by Keane’s greed and poor decisions though.
so your premise is that he’s a crap player? that’s a discussion-stopper right there. I’ve seen him player regularly, thank you very much, and I do agree that 20m is too much but the rest we’ll just agree to disagree, ok?
second only to berbatov.
YNWA. Come on you reds!
go for it lfc….
