Ligue Un is a fantastic league, but your scraping the barrell with inclusions like Morienes, Heinze and especially Inamoto.

I can't help but feel that Ligue Un will never be on a par with the 'Big 3'. Whenever a big star emerges he is snapped-up and leaves France. It's remarkable how Lyon did 7 in a row when they constantly sell their big names.

And many of the names Neil mentions are players looking for a refuge in the latter part of their careers or from other 'selling leagues' such as Portugal. All good players but without some serious investment the league will always be inferior to Serie A, La Liga and The PL.

This shouldn't be the case as France is capable of being as big a player as the others.

I must defend myself here, I wrote the article under the heading - "The Ten Top Newboys in Ligue Un", no mention of "stars". Sub-editing brought in the Stars element.

Of course the article omits good players such as Bastos & Gervinho, who have moved clubs this summer, but the aim is to look at players joining the league from outside France.

Thanks

Im sorry but Coupet, Morientes, Gelson Fernandes, Gabriel Heinze and to a lesser extent Joaroslav Plasil are not the "new stars" of Ligue 1. Coupet, Heinze and Morientes are on their last legs - and will make little to no impact with thier respective teams - while Gelson won't make waves with relegation candidates St. Etienne.

Coming from someone who watches Ligue 1 more than any league across Europe, i rate the league very highly and won't be wrong to say its on par (if not just a tad better) than the Bundesliga.

Gourcuff was the player of the season and doesn't have anything much to prove domestically cause he;s just that bloody good. Along with Lopez, Gonzales and Cissokho, Lyon new singing Michel Bastos and Marseille's Stephane Mbia are under lots of pressure to light up the league.

Young players such as Lille duo Eden Hazard and Gervinho, Nice's Loic Remy, Rennes Ismael Bangoura and Lyon's Miralem Pjanic should be a sight for sore eyes.
