We have to face the fact that the USA is not a top league in soccer, and we have to acknowledge that. If we allow foreign players like the rule stands now, then the league will continue to grow in overall quality, which will get more attendance and interest in pro soccer in the US. Then as our young players become more interested, they will either take over from the foreign players or go overseas before coming back, further increasing the level of play. More people will follow Landon Donovan. We are not the EPL where its so competitive that top-level internationals are coming in to the exclusion of young local talent. The MLS is a great place to develop because it is not a top league but it is more than respectable, and if our boys can play alongside players like Ljunberg and Henry even if only when they are past their prime it will still make the local players better.
