Redknapp wants permanent deal for in-form Campbell

One of the hottest players of the week is Tottenham’s on-loan Fraizer Campbell, and thanks to his fine form, the Daily Mail says that Harry Redknapp could soon try to sign the England U-21 man on a permanent deal from Manchester United.

Campbell went to Tottenham as part of Dimitar Berbatov’s move to Manchester, and he’s currently in the midst of a breakout spell. He had a brace in Spurs’ 4-2 Carling Cup win over Liverpool last Wednesday, and he followed it up by coming off of the bench to score in Tottenham’s weekend loss at Fulham. He topped off his fine week with a goal in the U-21′s win over the Czech Republic on Tuesday.

Tottenham already have a highly promising striker in Czech prospect Tomas Pekhart, who’s on loan at Southampton, and securing Campbell on a permanent deal could solidify their front line for the foreseeable future, when you throw in Darren Bent.

However, Sir Alex Ferguson will be pretty reluctant to let Campbell go, especially if he keeps this up. Keeping Campbell would be a lot cheaper than spending 30m on Carlos Tevez, and I can easily see United taking that route and giving Campbell a full chance to prove himself next term.

If he does consider letting Campbell go permanently, it’d have to be for an eight-figure fee, considering his great potential and Hull’s unsuccessful 7m bid in the summer.

Do you think Tottenham should try to strike a deal for Campbell? Who should Manchester United keep, Campbell or Tevez?

KEEP FRAIZER! Carlos Tevez’s days in a United shirt are numbered. He isn’t worth 30 million (just like Berba wasn’t worth 30 million). Tevez isn’t a prolific goal scorer and he isn’t a player that we NEED. Campbell has pace, he’s young, and he’s got the ability to score. Add that to Danny Welbeck’s prospect of greatness and we have two strikers that can lead United’s front line for years to come.

Damn I wish Liverpool had a young, hungry striker as good as Campbell….*sigh*

all i know is i see a very happy boy at tottenham these days and he is very much at home here, so i think if he goes back to fight for his place it will be very reluctantly. his future lies with spurs and he knows it. your stuck with the over priced tevez as much as your stuck with the over priced, Hargreaves, Carrick, and Berbatov

Levy will do all he can to get him to sign – so that he can sell him on at a profit at the end of the following season.
