I've changed my mind. We'll take Guti and stick him center-left midfield.

Here is the latest...exclusive to me LOL!

Palermo are still tracking Marco Amelia. The Livorno goalie will cost 4 million, plus the Tuscan (Livorno) club asked (Palermo) for Matteini (midfielder) and Agliardi (goalkeeper). Palermo could accept these conditions but Livorno are waiting for the last Manchester City offer because chairman Spinelli would prefer to sell Amelia abroad.
[original Italian here, 21st August 2007: see Amelia's wikipedia entry edited by yours truly]

NOTE: Marco Amelia did not part in Livorno's afternoon training today (21st) as Livorno prepare for their 26th of August clash with Juventus. [original Italian here] However, as Italy play Hungary this Wednesday, and Amelia is in the squad...

The President of Palermo, Maurizio Zamparini, took part in a radio show on Radio Kiss Kiss today to speak about the transfer market: “We are trying to bring in another top-quality midfielder in order to replace Ciaramitaro (midfielder on-loan to Chievo). Amelia? We are working on it, but we do not know if they will take a goalie in exchange.”.

LIVORNO, Interest for Corradi.
Posted 21.08 10.02 by Fabrizio Franceschi.
Livorno are now tracking Bernardo Corradi as they need a new striker. Corradi could leave Manchester City as there is no room for him, additionally Corradi wants to come back to Italy.[original Italian here]

INTER, Nothing to do for Modesto.
Posted 21.08 11.22 by Marco Gori Source: Controcampo-Tgcom.
Negotiations between Inter Milan and Reggina for Francesco Modesto failed last night, as the Italian champions offered 4.5 million Euros and the Calbrese club asked 6.5. The reality is that probably Reggina have already found a deal with Manchester City that will pay 6 million for the wing back. Inter probably won't put up any opposition as they are negotiating with the Citizens for the the transfer, on loan, of Alvaro Recoba.

Alice Notizie, 21st August 2007.
After the accident to Valerj Bojinov...Manchester City are trying to sign Alvaro Recoba. Eriksson is speaking with Inter, who would want the Uruguayan to go on loan with right of recall.

don't agree that Guti is a good player! Ok he's been at Real Madrid for years, but for someone who has been at a club of that stature for so long and not done anything, probably not even won anything up to last year. I'm not sure how old he is but i assume he's on the wrong side of 30.

However, my point is he's not good enough to play in City's side which is a credit to city, and also he is good enough to play for spurs but not if they want to start winning things.

You're comments about fletcher are ludicrous - he'd be less popular (and less use) than a bacon sandwich in a synagogue. Also your comment about Beckham's doing anything well in the USA makes me think you should be certified as insane.

Yeah, that's what both of them need, another striker.
Jol has spent nearly 45 million pounds on 5 strikers of which, one is injured, one has been off-loaded, one was severely overpaid for, one is not getting any playing time and the last one is Robbie Keane. Unless they've stumbled upon a winning lottery ticket, I think Jol needs to seriously look at a side that is capable of scoring without Berbatov, and figure out its weakness, its defense. He'd be better off trying to get someone like Vincent Kompany from Hamburg.
Man City don't need another striker. They're currently trying to offload several, namely Paul Dickov and Bernardo Corradi. They currently have 8 strikers on their books. So far, I think Sven has been making good choices in the market, but if he goes out to buy a replacement for the injured Bojinov when there is the impressive Rolando Bianchi, the consistent Darius Vassell, the amazing Emile Mpenza, and the young Georgios Samaras to name a few; then it'll just be the same old Sven who led England out of two world cups.

i hear what you say about guti, but i'd prefer johnson in city's central role with hamann. Either way Liverpool offered £4mil for johnson and it got rejected, so IMO i think that he's better than guti.

We don't want Guti. We want Marco Bresciano who is exactly the "put the foot on the ball" type of player we need. I think SGE and you are in agreement, though I wouldn't use the word "lightweight", we all know what you mean. It seems that City have not given up on Marco...we'll see, but, yes, the game against United really did show up the weakness in the midfield. Veron has made some flattering remarks about Sven that last couple of days, as he is a free agent (and despite his age), I am wondering if Verons harsh criticism of Ferguson and kind words about Sven were some sort of hint on his part? Even if they were, is he the right man for the job for say a one-year deal?

I did wonder about Alan Smith playing for City right in the middle...but he's gone to play for Arctic Circle AFC, alas.

Now Bob-a-job is out for 2-3 months, and we absolutely need a goalie, and we have been told again, and again, we were going to get three more players (at least, even before Bob-a-job's injury), and one of them would be (another) Brazilian, City fans don't know what to think.
