Real Madrid sign Arjen Robben from Chelsea…Alves next?
Arjen Robben has gotten his wish - he will now be playing for a club that matches his ambitions AND his penchance for theatrics (it’s hard enough to find a “drama queen playing the innocent damsel in distress” in football players, but a football club?).
Yes, Chelsea have finally agreed to sell Robben to Real Madrid, for a fee believed to be around €36m (£24.5m). It’s a lot of money to pay for a winger regardless of how good Robben is, although Chelsea can be proud to not only have profited from a player’s talents but also profit from his sale. An unhappy player was never going to be of any good and Malouda brings more tenacity and more experience to the side than Robben could any day of the week.
This transfer, and now the reported transfer of Juliano Belletti from Barcelona to Chelsea (AS reports it here) for 5.5m now means that Chelsea have made money this summer and should be proud of their transfer dealings.
However, it’s not so good for Dani Alves. He’s been itching for a move to Chelsea, but with the Belletti move (surprising, as I doubt that Mourinho rates him higher than Ferreira) his only option would seem to be Real Madrid, who have just spent 35m euros on a player and would be unlikely to make such a big splash again. It’s possible, but slightly doubtful.
If Real Madrid don’t come through, Alves will stay at Sevilla and then it’ll be a very interesting 2008 summer because I’m 100% that teams like Manchester United and AC Milan will make a play for Dani Alves then as well.
I don’t agree with Chelsea’s policy of not wanting to pay a bit extra for Alves - if Alves goes to a Champions League rival or worse, to a Premier League rival next summer, then it will come to bite Chelsea back in the arse in the future. They’ve done it to other clubs by paying a bit over the top to attract great players, and it’s always going to be this way in football - you have to deal with it, but I guess being financially independent is more important at the moment.
Real Madrid’s Summer Buys
Gabriel Heinze, Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder, Roysten Drenthe, Jerzey Dudek, Javier Saviola, Pepe and Christoph Metzelder.

Looks good on paper but Sevilla hammered them at the weekend at the Bernabeu.
There is an expression in spanish which is “compuesto y sin novia”. Literally it means “composed and without a girlfriend/fiancee”. What it means is when you’re all dressed up and ready to go (to the wedding or the dance, whatever) and the person you’re relying on to go with you cancels.
This is exactly what happened with Alves, he had several “girlfriends” in Chelsea, Madrid, and even some other clubs, and he’s been putting on his tuxedo with the declarations he’s made. And now he has no one to go to the dance (CL) with. Excuse all the metaphors.
And this is entirely the fault of one person: Del Nido, Sevilla’s president. Del Nido has been a hard negotiator in the past, and gotten some good money for players, but I think he’s let this, and Sevilla’s success, get to his head; he wanted 42m euros for a right back. This wasn’t going to happen, not even with Chelsea and Madrid, Europe’s two richest clubs, vying for him.
Some people thought he’d compromise but several huge offers from Chelsea were rejected, and del Nido thought he’d end up getting the price he wanted. But now Chelsea has sold Robben (confirmed - meaning Madrid will be out of the running for Alves), and is about to buy Belletti (not confirmed, but close, and it would leave Alves “compuesto y sin novia”) and the only thing Del Nido is possibly looking forward to now is a year with an unhappy, disappointed player on his team’s books, whose value might not be nearly as high next summer.
Very intelligent move by Chelsea, selling Robben now and almost agreeing the deal with Belletti, in order to remind Del Nido that if he doesn´t deal with them, he’s dealing with no one, and so the price has to go down. I wouldn’t be surprised if within a day or two the Belletti transfer falls through and Chelsea sign Alves for about 32-34m euros.
Pity about Robben. Even though I’m nt a Chelsea fan, I always liked watching him play.
I wonder if this move will affect Robinho in any way?
acrv: “All dressed up with nowhere to go” is the Enslish phrae you’re looking for. Quite. you forget as well the story that Chelsea had offered Alves security from the disappointed Sevilla fans already. Staying there will be a big problem.
Cicinho is off to Roma for €5m
Interesting comments made by Capello. I find the ‘money available’ quite interesting.

Real are said to be after Berbatov, the selfish P****s. They’re never happy with what they have, they always have to get the great players off of every team, f*****g Nazi’s.
Alves might not get his move which is good as he is greedy and wants to move only for more money, the a******e.
Belletti is going to Chelsea from Barcelona
Its back to the Real Madrid we were all so familiar with a few seasons back. Full of established stars(remember the nickname?), full of hype, an idiot of a club president and haphazard performances(which started off in the match against sevilla)………….
id love Alves but realisticly i reckon Real Madrid are his future
You got it almost right “avrv” except that Chelsea ended up signing Juliano Belletti. I think Chelsea believe more in teaching a lesson than sheer threatening.
I never heard that- That Alves was offered security by Chelsea. WOW the kid wont walk in that town let alone play games:)
Also Ahmed i dont think next summer there will be other teams coming for Alves coz nothing was stopping them from trying this time either except the price. If they were unwilling this time around there is no reason to believe they will foolish enough to pay over the odds price the next season. And if Alves price drops (as it will mostly coz his existing contract with Sevilla would be an year less)the next season and more than one team meet the offer set by the idiot Del Nido then i am sure Alves like this time would opt only for Chelsea as no one can pay bigger wages than us.
nerazzuri Madrid has never expressed any interest whatsoever in Berbatov. You have to be really simplistic and gullible if you believe every rumor you read. As far as the rest of what you said, yes, Madrid signs good players from other teams, it’s the football food chain, and the way things work. If you don’t like it, I suggest you f*ck off and watch rugby or golf, because this is how it is and how it will always be. Calling them “nazis” for it only reflects on how truly ignorant you are.
avrv
I’ve heard the rumour a few times now, and if you think Real are like most teams, just signing players on the “football food chain”, then you’re the ignorant r****d. They have to have the all best players off of all the teams possible. Just like the nazi’s they are, they are never happy with what they have, they must have the best of everything else.
What is r****d?
retard.
