Real Madrid reject €75m Chelsea bid for Alvaro Morata

According to Spanish radio station Cadena SER, Chelsea have had a €75m bid for Spanish striker Alvaro Morata rejected by Real Madrid.

The 23-year-old striker, who scored three times for Spain in Euro 2016, was bought back to the Spanish capital for €30m only this summer from Juventus after spending two years in Serie A. However, reports claim that Real could be persuaded to part with the player once again, and so soon, if their valuation of €80m is met.

Cadena SER also claim that Chelsea have also had a €60m bid for Morata rejected this summer.

Antonio Conte’s arrival at Stamford Bridge has seen the start of a grand overhaul of the Chelsea squad, with N’Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi already arriving this summer. Batshuayi and the hit-and-miss Diego Costa, who was overlooked by De Bosque for the Euro 2016 Spain squad, remain the only viable options up front for Conte and it would not be a surprise if he added another striker to his armoury.

Morata had an excellent two years at Juventus in Italy, scoring 27 over the two seasons and helping his side to successive domestic doubles, with the Old Lady reaching the Champions League final in 2015.

He has made no secret of his desire to succeed at Madrid, however, but has always seen his chances at the Bernabeu limited, hence his departure for Juve.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Morata is still seeking assurances from Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane over his role in the team despite having been bought back by the club.

If Real are prepared to reject offers as large as the reported €75m from Chelsea, then it could be that Zidane has real plans for the 23-year-old striker and would prefer him to stay in the Spanish capital.

It remains to be seen how far Chelsea and Conte will go to get their man.
