Real Madrid legend hits out – ‘Manchester United player deserves better’

Real Madrid legend, Iker Casillas has hit out at the treatment of compatriot, Victor Valdes at Old Trafford.

The former Barcelona keeper is third choice at Manchester United and has fallen out of favour with the manager, Louis Van Gaal.

The Spaniard is thought to have had a bust up with the manager and is no longer a part of his plans.

Valdes was close to finalising his transfer to Turkey this summer, but Besiktas altered the terms of his transfer in the last minute, forcing him to call off the deal.

Valdes is now behind De Gea and Romero in the pecking order and will need to work hard to earn his place, even as a substitute.

Casillas expressed his grief at the situation and stated that football is often ungrateful and that a phenomenal person like Valdes does not deserve this. The former Real Madrid star wished Valdes well and urged him to find a solution soon.

“I want to send all my support and a lot of encouragement to Victor,” Casillas said.

“This is proof that at times football is ungrateful.

“He deserves to find a solution soon because of the type of player he is.”

“Had they told us a year-and-a-half ago that he would be in this situation, no one would have believed it,” Casillas said.

“Obviously, no one wishes him that. I know he will come out of this situation because he has a privileged mind and I really hope he comes out of this.

Casillas, who left Real Madrid this summer also understands the problems of leaving a club close to the heart. The Porto keeper stated that it gets better eventually and players move on.

“I’m certain he will succeed because we all get back to enjoying ourselves [after leaving a club].”

After calling off his move to Turkey, Valdes posted a photo of a Manchester United badge on his Facebook and Twitter pages, perhaps implying his commitment towards the club.

It will be interesting to see if the Spaniard can win over Van Gaal and get some game time before the window reopens.
