Spanish news sources are good for a high-profile rumor or three regularly, and today, Sport.es is saying that Real Madrid are in negotiations to sign Didier Drogba.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was recently lost for the season due to knee surgery, so Real Madrid will likely pursue a striker in January. However, it seems a little curious for them to spend on someone who’s been just a tad injury-prone as of late. Besides, Drogba is already cup-tied for the Champions League.

But with Gonzalo Higuain and Raul available to start Champions League matches, Real could be looking at Drogba to aid their La Liga title push and to help give Higuain and Raul a regular rest when needed.

Would Chelsea be willing to let him go? Having a fit (and unsuspended) Drogba can only make Chelsea even better, but they’ve got on just fine this season without him, thanks to Nicolas Anelka’s blistering start and production from several others.

Besides, does Drogba want to be at Chelsea? He was all too ready to leave in the summer, though nothing came to pass. I’d guess that little has changed on that end, and if this opportunity did come along, he’d have his bags packed in a flash.

Would Drogba be a good option for Real Madrid in January? Do you think Chelsea will let him go, and if you do, who should they replace him with?

I personally will be glad to see Drogba go. Hes a cheat and the English game would benefit from seeing the back of such a whining, diving, egotistical player.

Yeah Drogba is a cheat and a whiner… yet i’m sure Ronaldo isn’t, nor is Gerrard and obviously Gallas isn’t Egotistical either.

Deal with it, football gives people big heads, some worse than others but it effects all players to some extent.

Yeah, yeah, we can all agree they’re prima donnas. Who would you replace him with though? I think they should go with a youthful stiker like Pato Alexandre. Some of these Chelsea players are going gray. Bring in a nice young lad who can learn from the elders. Don’t bring in some 29-year-old-going-to-retire-in-a-few-more-years-kinda-guy.
