Though you are right in pointing out Real&#039;s excellent first half of the season, it has to be said that the teams touted as title contenders at the start of the season (Barcelona, Sevilla, Valencia) have failed to live up to expectations, in some cases quite spectacularly. Real have taken advantage and if they keep their lead it will hopefully stand them in good stead when the Champions League kicks off again in February and the calendar gets all congested again. It&#039;s a much better position to be in that this time last year, but remember that Barcelona had a larger lead over Real and still managed to (just) lose the championship.

Interesting analogy on the &lt;i&gt;liga&lt;/i&gt; trophy, although I don&#039;t get the &quot;opening her pores&quot; reference.</description>
