QPR in shock loan move for Manchester City’s Elano

According to a reportreport by the Daily Mirror (and several others), Queens Park Rangers are making a surprise loan move for Manchester City’s Elano. After being a star for City last season and starting this season with three goals in his first two Premier League matches, Elano has featured very little for Mark Hughes recently. The Brazilian international spoke out about his frustrations last week, which, judging by his absence from Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Hull, has fallen on deaf ears.

Is he now set to take a step down to the Championship?

It’s an audacious move for a Championship side to make, but QPR aren’t your average Championship side. When it comes to finances, deep-pocketed QPR can easily afford Elano’s wages. Getting the services of a playmaker of his caliber would improve their odds of making a serious run at Premier League promotion and having the success to match their ambition and money. QPR have scored only 16 goals in 17 league matches, and if Elano shows his 2007/08 form, he’d be an upgrade and a half on the attacking front.

However, would Elano rather rot on the bench at City than move to the Championship? More importantly, is Mark Hughes ready to leave him leave, or does he think he still has a place in the team?

Is Liverpool's Dossena set for quick Serie A return?
