Premier League MatchDay 8 – Five Things To Look Forward To This Weekend

We are into Match Day 8 and as usual expecting yet another cracking weekend of Premier League actions. Plenty of things to look forward to this weekend despite there are potentially no so called big-matches scheduled.

Chelsea's Fernando Torres

Here are five major things to look forward to:

Expect the unexpected

Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Manchester City all should win their respective games. On paper, at least. However, in football, unexpected things happen and there lies the charm of Premier League. Southampton earned a fantastic victory against Liverpool at Anfield already this season and who knows they might pull out a surprise as well against the Red Devils.

Man City’s away jinx

In 3 away matches so far, City’s record – O Win, 1 Draw, 2 Loss – surely, they need to change that scenario when they’ll take on a rampant West Ham side on Saturday at Upton Park. Although City are fifth in the table, another slip-up from here on will lead them into more trouble. Further, questions will be asked about City’s title challenging abilities as well.

Rejuvenation of Fernando Torres

El Nino returns after suspension and injuries. Jose Mourinho said ahead of the match – “But he played very well against Bayern (in the Uefa Super Cup) and was very proactive against Tottenham Hotspur, very dynamic, the best people had seen for quite a long time.”

Torres was terrific against Tottenham and all eyes will be on him whether the Spaniard can encore that performance against Cardiff on Saturday.

Will Liverpool Juggernaut roll on?

The Reds are sitting joint top in the Premier League along with Arsenal. But can they maintain that momentum? They have a tough set of fixtures in November and December to deal with, so Brendan Rodgers will be hoping to keep that good run of form going. Last time they eviscerated Newcastle 6-0 – can they do it again?

Further misery for Sunderland

These are tough times to be a Sunderland fan. The bottom placed team in the Premier League have been awful to say the least. Under new manager Gus Poyet, it will be interesting to see how they approach from here on. His first stop is away to Liberty Stadium to face Swansea – no pressure at all, Poyet!
